I would have to say "Blue." It was a dance song that came out in 1999 or 2000. I was working in a store at the time, and they played that song about every 20 minutes or so. It didn't help that the song had the lyrical depth of a confused squirrel.

I'd have to say anything by Nickleback or 3 Doors Down...Oh wait! I know! "Lips of An Angel" By Hinder.

I agree wholeheartedly about "Blue". I didn't mind "Lips of an Angel" the first couple of times I heard it, but it is so overplayed, it's definitely annoying.

I've written an entire quiz on the worst songs I've ever heard - check it out if you want my opinions of bad songs!

Factoring in overplayed:

"Without Me" - Eminem
"Do You Feel Like I Do?" - Peter Frampton

I actually never liked "Lips of an Angel" and I've tried so hard to hear what other people hear in that song but I just don't find ANYTHING appealing about it, at ALL! The music is so slow and dismal and boring and the lyrics are just..well stupid. The vocal melody leaves MUCH to be desired and they just sound like another Nickleback rip off who I also can't find anything appealing about...all of these new "modern rock"-type bands like Nickleback, 3 Doors Down, Hinder, Finger Eleven, Staind...what is so appealing about that? All I hear from them is boring and mediocre.

I would have to say "Don't cha" by Pussycat Dolls. It's a retarded song, and it almost puts me into seizures whenever I hear it!

Yeah but atleast "Don't Cha" is a catchy song...I don't find anything catchy about anything from Nickleback!

Anytime I hear "Lips of an Angel" I change the station. Somewhat offended by the lyrics.
Abba songs have a tendency to grate on me as well, sorry Abba fans.

"Don' Cha" is one of those tunes that keep running through your head even if you don't like it. Been in my head since I read this post at work....all the way home. Arggggg!

"We Built This City" by Starship and "Sk8er Boi" from Avril Lavigne come immediately to mind. I'll give Ms. Lavigne the benefit of the doubt (although the source of her songwriting has recently come into question) because she has time to improve. "We Built This City" on the other hand, credits Bernie Taupin and Peter Wolf among the writers. It sounds like they phoned it in. Bad songs, man. Bad songs.

I have to say "Beep" by the Pussy Cat Dolls, and "Candyman" by Christina Aguilera. The first time I heard Candyman I had to go and look up the lyrics before I confirmed what it said, and I am surprised that they are allowed to play it on daytime radio.

If the lyrics were a play, it certainly wouldn't be allowed on daytime TV.
The same goes for "Beep", it is sad how artists are so strapped for lyrics these days that they must revert to dirty trash.

It's catchy, I love the tune, but stop and google search for the lyrics and you'll see what I'm talking about. I can't post them here because they aren't suitable.

I think I will google the words because I'm bored. But still I don't think the words will make me stop liking the song...I hardly pay attention to words on songs like.

Heh. Yeah they are pretty raunchy but I've heard worse. Lyrics like that don't really bother me though.

Those are not very bad lyrics...There are plenty worse.

Worse song I've ever heard...I'm just a kid- Simple Plan. Or make that everything by Simple Plan.

I've NEVER in my life heard anything as whiny and annoying as that band.

Geh!

I've heard whinier...listen to A New Found Glory. I really like A New Found Glory, though, despite their whiney-ness.

I judge songs by the lyrics - I don't care how catchy it is, if the lyrics I like, then the song I like.

I can't stand Hinder's "Lips of an Angel" either - the lyrics suck. I hate songs where the singer talks about cheating on their other half. For goodness sake, if you can't get someone off your mind, be a freakin' man about it and dump the one you've got before you decide to take up with another.

I can't stand most of the garbage that MeatLoaf has put out there as music either - "2 out of 3 ain't bad" - mate, how dare you? Quite frankly, I'd be keeping my pimp hand strong for the time when someone said that to me!

"Total Eclipse of the Heart" - another song I can't stand (it's like biting on tinfoil while someone runs their nails down a blackboard) - surprisingly enough written by the same person who wrote for MeatLoaf. Jim Steinman, you are the boil on my musical butt.

Oh, and "My Heart Will Go On" by Celine Dion. Should have gone down with the ship. (Can't stand the movie either - no surprise - big-a$$ boat, still sinks, a sorry excuse to see Kate Winslet gets her gear off).

Give me "Billy Don't Be A Hero" by Paper Lace over all of the above!!!!!

I actually will always have a soft spot for Meatloaf...and Total Eclipse of the Heart" is..well it's kind of just "there" for me...I neither like nor dislike it. I don't really understand why you would listen to music JUST for the lyrics...why not just read poetry then?

Music is so much more than lyrics! Music is melody and rhythm...harmony. To me I don't care how great the lyrics are, if the melody is crap then the song is crap. Melody is what makes a song.

BINGO!!! I've always thought the same thing. That's why I've never liked Bob Dylan and Johnny Cash...They're great artists, and had great lyrics, but neither one could hold a note, and their bands were really bad.

I never understood how they became so popular. Oh well.

Well when you think about it, music hasn't (and often still doesn't) always had words, and what defines music? Well it's in the name: MUSIC! Lyrics are secondary, if it's a catchy melody that makes you feel good, or a haunting one that evokes much emotion that's worth SO MUCH more to me than whether the lyrics are about a long lost love or three little birds sitting on one's doorstep.

If the music has both lyrics and meoldy, then it is a combination of the two that make the song good. If I love the melody but absolutely detest the lyrics, then I try and transpose the melody (if possible) and just learn to play it for my own enjoyment. A friend has an MP3 player that when you pull the headphones out a little, you can only hear the music, not the lyrics.
