That's a good point. I don't think I have ever seen baby pidgeon. Perhaps they are kept in nests until they don't look baby anymore.

Well I just searched to see what they look like, and it's funny you mention it, but yes I have seen them before. I was walking home from class not long ago and I could hear sounds coming from one of the vents and I looked up and there was a nest of baby birds.

I never checked to see what they were, but they looked identical to what a baby pigeon looks like so I can only assume that's what I saw.

Ok, at my old school there used to be plently of Baby Minor nests around, but not any pigeons. we had rainbow lorikeets though, they were georgeous.

Actually now I think of it, I think a baby pidgeon flew into the window at some stage during Italian class.

When I moved into this flat at the end of April, three years ago, the last occupier had left a flowerpot full of soil on the balcony and a pigeon had laid two eggs in it. They hatched in due course and the baby pigeons grew up there until they were able to fly.

When they'd left I removed the pot: I don't want pigeons around the place all the time. It was nice to watch them growing, though.

I used to think there were no baby seagulls around and wondered why, then I realised, by the time they leave the nest they are just about the same size as adults, just a different colour. Perhaps the same happens with most wild birds, I don't remember seeing babies of just about any birds. The only time I saw a baby sparrow was when it fell out of the nest and I ended up finishing the rearing myself as the nest was in the gutter and too high to put it back and various cats would have love a baby sparrow lunch.

I suppose. I guess I have been exposed to a fair few baby birds so I'm used to seeing them captive, but not in the wild.

My friend breeds budgies, they are adorable.

I got to hold the little ones as soon as they were old enough, oddly enough the one that bit me was the one my sister ended up buying.

After reading this thread it occured to me that I hadn't seen any baby seagulls this year then this morning on my way into town I spotted one.

Pigeons will breed on any convenient shelf, they prefer at least a foot above eye level and in a relatively shady and undisturbed corner which is why they tend to get 'underlooked' rather than 'overlooked' (I once had to chase a couple out of my bedroom, they were checking out the top of our wardrobe for suitability.)
Gulls tend to breed in loose colonies quite far from human habitation (rocky coastland and offshore islands) and 'commute' to their feeding grounds, municipal dumps and littered beaches for example. We did a study on them for college and saw lots of the little cuties.. as chicks they're just as cute as chicken chicks with splodges and stripes. Then they moult through dull grey or brown speckled phases before they're as white as the parents.

"Rats with wings". That's what everyone here says about pigeons. There is a web site called 'Bird Be-Gone' that specializes in pigeons...maybe that's where they went.

You know the odd thing about pigeons is that most of the ones referred this way are actually Rock Doves. We have lots of them here in Israel like any place I guess but during bible times they were an acceptable sin offering.

I loathe the things (pigeons). Somebody in the next street feeds them and they relieve themselves all over my car.
