I sobbed when dobby died and also when snape died. I was relieved to discover that snape was actually still a good guy, they had me a bit worried after book 6. All in all I was a bit sad to finish the book and put it down, to say farewell.

I think the poem at the very start about death set the tone for the rest of the story that there will indeed be very many losses. That still didn't prepare for me some of the deaths and I was surprised that Dobby's death affected me so much. I'm glad that Harry gave him a proper burial, that just felt right.

I loved the insights into Dumbledore's and Snape's pasts. I was a bit shocked by the aspect of Dumbledore that we'd never seen before, his hunger for power and dominance, but in the very end it made him real, human and I came to respect the man more.

I'd always thought Snape would choose Voldemort's side although it didn't surprise me that he was good and I was pleased that he was. As others have mentioned, The Prince's Tale was a wonderful chapter, I wanted it to go on, and I felt very emotional from then on. I loved the twists with Snape casting the doe Patronus and how he did care for Harry, somewhat. His story is quite sad though and although I didn't enjoy the epilogue so much, I liked that Harry said Snape was the bravest man he ever knew. He really was.

I think the actual Deathly Hallows was a great addition to the story as well. I would never have guessed that's what it was all about! I enjoyed the book very much; there was laughter, tears, shock and relief. I wasn't sure how everything would take place, even while reading, but I'm not disappointed overall!

I really enjoyed the book. I thought it was so sad when Dobby died. It really got to me. I also didn't like the epilogue. I thought the book could have done without it. I knew that Snape was good along. I had figured that Dum_bledore was already dying when he was "killed" by Snape in the sixth book. All in all it was a great book. Two thumbs way up.

I agree with this comment. though i found on a website an interview jk gave and in it she says that Harry becomes head of the auror office and that both Ron and Hermione work at the ministry. unfortunately, JK doesn't really give any more information. i guess we will have to wait for the encyclopedia.

It would be interesting to find out what their careers were... it would be even more interesting to find out whether they actually finished school, and thus completed their N.E.W.T.s.

Oh, I loved the entire book. I'm rereading it right now:). I just can't help it.
All the deaths were upsetting. Fred happened to be one of my favorites, so I had to reread that part over &over to make sure that I wasn't going crazy.
I loved Kreacher's change too! When he came to help the house elves, I was so relieved, and so proud.
The couples in the epilogue are perfect. Neville being a professor! Loved it! And he was perfect to kill the snake. Just perfect.
Mrs. Weasley killing Bellatrix! I cheered for her then, you have no idea!

. Great book, but so sad it's ended.

JKR said she wasn't going to write any more Harry Potter, but she's working on a huge HP encyclopedia that will cover everything mentioned in the books.

Yes I heard that too. I must admit I was rather upset with the epilogue covering only one scene, having to do with the marriages. What became of Hogwarts? The remaining Order members? Do Harry and Ginny live at Grimmauld Place or Godric's Hollow? Even the Dursley's...what happened to them? I am hoping all of this will be explained in the encyclopedia, though J.K. Rowling is beginning to leak out information every now and then.

I felt so sure Harry was dead for a second, and his chat with Dumbledore would simply be a talk about how it all worked out. I also, as did seemingly everybody, LOVED the Snape thingy, whatever you want to call it. I wanted to think that Dumbledore was smart enought to stay alive ever since he died, and knowing that he planned his death was so comforting. I also had tears in my eyes after Dobby's death, and my heart in my throat after the Gringotts break-in =D. That was a favourite part for me. I felt happy when I figured out that Ron and Hermione/Ginny and Harry got together - I was afraid Harry and Ginny were over for good, although it was impossible, hehe. That was simply an amazing book, definitely the best of the series.

I have to say that I adored the book. I also felt that the epilogue could have given more detail about everybody i.e. Luna and Dean and poor George. However if J.K. is going to release an encyclopedia then it would have been smart to keep at least a little something that we don't know yet to make it worth reading. She didn't really keep anything big unexplained just little things that would make the encyclopedia a treasure and something worth keeping on a shelf for years to come.

I adore the chapter about severus snape and I am thrilled that he was good until the end. The extent of his suffering, the unrequited love and self loathing he must of felt quite took my breath away though.

Fred dying came as quite a shock although quite honestly there was no way that a family as large as the Weasleys was going to get away without some loss during that whole dreadful mess. Poor George. Dobby and Hedwig dying came as a shock but after thinking about it Lupin and Tonks was actually predicted in the very first chapter when Voldemort talks to the Malfoy's and Bellatrix about pruning unwanted members from their family tree. Also making Harry Godfather had a somewhat morbid ring to it.

I wonder who some of the other casualties were. She doesn't really mentions anyone else.

I am thrilled about Neville becoming Herbology Professor. A perfect fit for him and perhaps the reason that he is one of the few people mentioned in the epilogue.

On the whole a wonderful book that brings the series to a good, although at times very heart breaking end. My children will definitely be encouraged to read these books. I hope that many generations to come will enjoy Harry and his friends and Hogwarts (a character in its own right) as much as we did.

I thought that we should also have seen a glimpse of Dudley and his son on platform 9 3/4, and I would liked to have seen Gilderoy Lockhart again.

I cheered when Sybil entered the battle, throwing the crystal ball.

Here's what I read from an interview with JK Rowling. All the stuff that wasn't mentioned, or wasn't clear after the epolouge.

Harry-Married Ginny with three kids-Albus Severus, James, and Lily. He is an auror in the ministry and later becomes the head under Kingsley Shacklebolt's reccomendation. He is also Teddy's Godfather, whos parents were Tonks and Remus Lupin.

Harry became an auror and later head of the Aurors' department, under Kingsley's recommendation. He owns Sirius' bike, which Arthur fixed up for him. He is married to Ginny. Has three kids, Lily, James, and Albus Severus. Due to the destruction of the piece of Voldemort's soul that resided in him, Harry can no longer speak parseltoungue.

Ginny Weasley played for the Holyhead Harpies Quidditch team for a time, then left her athletic career behind for marriage and family with Harry. She eventually becomes the lead Quidditch correspondent for the Daily Prophet.

Ron worked for a time with George at their store, Weasley's Wizard Wheezes, and eventually became an Auror. He is married to Hermione. Has two kids, Rose and Hugo.

Hermione began a career at the Ministry of Magic at the Department for the Regulations and Control of Magical Creatures, and greatly improved life for house-elves and their ilk, but later moved to the Department of Magical Law Enforcement; she helped ensure the eradication of oppressive, pro-pureblood laws. She is married to Ron. She also found her parents and removed the memory modification charm she put on them.

Luna Lovegoodhas become a naturalist of sorts, searching the world for odd and unique creatures. She eventually marries Rolf, the grandson of Newt Scamander.

George Weasley names his first child Fred.

Slytherin has become more diluted, and is no longer the pureblood bastion it once was. Nevertheless, its dark reputation lingers.

Voldemort's jinx on the Defense Against the Dark Arts position was broken with his death, and there is a permannt (unnamed) DADA teacher.

Professor McGonagall, who was briefly the interim Headmistress, did not assume the position after Snape. An unnamed Headmaster was appointed.

Firenze was welcomed back into his herd, who acknowledge that his pro-human leanings were not shameful, but honourable.

Kingsley Shacklebolt became the Minister for Magic, with Percy Weasley working under him as a high official.

As part of the changes introduced by Kingsley Shacklebolt, Azkaban no longer uses Dementors. As a result, England is now a "much sunnier place."

Dolores Umbridge was arrested, interrogated, and imprisoned for crimes against Muggleborns.

The Quibbler has returned to its usual condition of "advanced lunacy", and is appreciated for its unintentional humour.

Those things except for the Auror bit were made obvious in the book.

Ron learnt to speak parceltongue, so I would think that Harry would be able to keep his ability

Ron didn't learn to speak Parseltongue. He was able to mimic Harry earlier on, to be able to enter the Chamber of Secrets. So knowing how to say 'open' would be enough. Harry has indeed lost his ability to speak Parseltongue fluently, as his Horcrux status only allowed him to do that.

You can read the rest of the web transcript chat with J.K. Rowling here. It has lots of interesting information in it!

I loved this book! It came in the mail Saturday at 3pm, and I finished it at 2am with tears drying on my cheeks. An ending that doesn't answer every question is great because it leaves it to you to imagine whatever you like. I, like many others thought Snape was an awful man, yet as I read about Harry in the pensieve and discovered more of Snape, I found myself crying and wondering how I could have been so wrong. Also, I'm glad Neville had a hand in the destruction of Voldemort. Neville has always been one of my favorite characters. I wanted him to be the one to take care of Bellatrix, after what she had done to his parents, however, I like how J.K.R. wrote him as the one to kill Nagini, and who knew Molly could duel like that!

You know, I've read series with completely retarded or stupid endings, but this book, by far, is the best ending to a series period. yes, i'll admit there were a few disappointing parts, but I got over it.

This book was breathtaking!!!
I was hooked onto this book and couldn't put it down. Finding the horcruxes and the revelation of Albus and Snape's relationship was also interesting. Everything fit in so well, I can't imagine how Jk Rowling thought of a book like this! I wish she didn't end it here and kept writing more books but it has to end somewhere =(
overall, I found this book amazing and will recommend to everyone.
The ending was alright ( I liked it) but I also wanted to know what else changed and what happened to the rest of the Weasleys. I hope Rowling makes another good series.

JK Rowling is supposed to write an encyclopedia, telling us stuff about nineteen years later like who was the headmaster/headmistress of Hogwarts, the defense against the dark arts teacher, and so on. She said she'll fill us in on all that stuff, well, at least hopefully right?

The book is really great. I laughed and cried while reading it. Its as if im also there. Too bad that Dobby had to die.. he is such a brave little elf. I was surprise that I liked Snape in the end. I thought i will always hate him..
I just wish that J.K. Rowling mentioned what happened to Harry, Ron and Hermione after the battle... It would have been nice to know... dont you think?

Well, I'm glad we at least know Harry married Ginny and Ron married Hermione. Then Neville became a teacher, but yeah, she could have told us a bit more.

I'd say it's the best book in the series, closely followed by Order of the Phoenix.

The Death that shocked me the most was Dobby. You wouldn't expect him to be dead, until you read that he has Bellatrix's knife in him.

Also, Fred..

My favourite chapter was "The Princes Tale" It was so cute how Snape felt for Lily. I didn't expect him to be best friends with her. I thought it might've been a slight crush, and that he never hardly spoke with her.

I also love how Kreacher turns nice in this. It was very unexpected.

The people I'm so glad didn't die are, Luna, Hermione and Draco, as they're my favourite characters and always will be.
Sure, I didn't want Harry to die, but not as much as I didn't want them 3.

The Epilogue was disapointing, it wasn't how I expected. Well.. it was good, but I don't think it revealed enough information.

The most memorable line was... Yes, it's coming..

"NOT MY DAUGHTER YOU B****!" (Mrs Weasley to Bellatrix) It was so unexpected and I was shocked, but pleased! I also didn't think Mrs Weasley had it in her to kill someone.. But, it was obviously due to the fact that she didn't want to lose another child to the Death Eaters.

And when Ron and Hermione kiss in the Room of Requirement, I laughed when Harry said "Is this the right time?"
Well, it was something like that

I think all mother's have it in them to kill to protect their children - I cheered aloud for Molly at that bit, I knew that Bellatrix was doomed, there was just no way Molly was going to lose another child - that scene will be spectacular in the film, I might even go and see it - I've avoided all the others so far
