Sure I like to be kept up on the events happening in the world but my God it can be depressing watching too much news! People being blown up, children being raped, elderly people being bashed, all the grizzly details of a woman's death on a cruise ship, natural disasters wrecking havoc across the globe and how whales being killed that are pregnant is a good thing ... SO who has some good news? There must be something good happening in the world? I'll start: Dog found 2000 miles from home

I agree with Sue. It was a heart warming story. I have a miniature schnauzer that I love dearly but I didn't know there was such a thing as a mico chip that can be inserted in the dog. A very nice story.

Well this sounds happy! The dolphins that were washed out to sea during hurricane Katrina have been found. Flipping dolphins

Very good news, in that same vein. I got home to find my helper had made sticky rice with brown sugar and coconut oh yum. It was there in the kitchen on a huge banana leaf, all shiny and luscious. It looks a little smaller now.

Today is my day off. That's a whole lot of good news!
I'm also going to indulge myself with a trip to the cinema - and it really is an indulgence - so double good news!
Hmmm - sad. *I'm so easily amused*

I believe based on my personal observations and experience that good things are happening all the time but the vast majority of them are so quiet and modest, don't 'sell papers' or 'make good television', that they don't get reported. Usually they're in the category of people helping other people or people getting the big breaks they need in one way or another. A lot of this may seem pretty unimpressive to the world at large but mean a great deal to those who benefit. Small scale grassroots news rather than headliners but they make an ongoing impact on the world at large.

Those are all neat stories. Trevor, I had a micro-chip implanted in my black lab, Jordan, when she was a year old. Thankfully, I've never had to make use of it in the 10 years I've been "privileged" to live in HER home. The cream roll and the sticky rice sound mighty good right now! I will have to see if I can find a story about "poor" Paris. I am glad that it doesn't take a whole lot to amuse me or make me happy. Every day I have breathing and walking is one I need to be grateful for.

Our local radio station is encouraging people to do something nice for others for the next 21 days. Today one lady paid for an old gentlemans groceries, just because she could. He thanked her profusely, gave her his telephone no incase she needed any painting done.
I think it is a great idea and has made me think, we go through our daily lives not even noticing the people around us. We should all be more observant and caring of others.

I heard this story yesterday on the "Oprah Winfrey" show (despite some odd assignment otherwise somewhere, I see most of these talk shows as unrelentless self-promoting hooey ~ and Winfrey is one of the "self-promotiest" [just my opinion, mind you ]), but I thought this story, and the people involved, was entirely spectacular. Aside from the excellence of the idea, I was even more impressed with the 'pay back' rate. People are good, they are. Not perfect, never that ... but it's SO heartening to see some aspirations to that ideal. And some outreach from one heartful stranger to another heartful one makes the world seem like a far less fractured place. Here's the report...

I have some good news, I finally got 15 points on the Monster Quiz today, after starting to play it almost two months ago. I just had to tell someone since no one is home with me today. Everyone, Take Care.

Gatsby and lady1, your stories reminded me of the movie "Pay It Forward". The premise is that you do a good deed for 3 people and instead of them paying you back, they in turn do a good deed for 3 more people. In other words, don't pay BACK, pay FORWARD. I loved the movie and it made me think how little time it can take to do something good.

Gatsby's post reminded me. I did a sponsored trek in Iceland a few weeks ago, in aid of our local hospice. My colleague and I had to raise £1850.00 each and at times it seemed daunting.
Fundraising has been an eye opener into human nature. Some people will argue for ages as to why they shouldn't buy a raffle ticket (just say no!) but others have been marvellous.
People on this site have sponsored me without being asked - thank you all, you were very generous.
A local pub let us have their function hall for free for a quiz night, gave us 10% of their bar profits and ran the quiz for us into the bargain.
I went to a psychic evening to look into the possibility of running one for our fundraising. I got talking to a psychic and she and a friend came to my house on two evenings and did some readings for friends and colleagues, only charged their petrol money.
We expect to have raised about £3,000 each by the time we've got all the funds in. On the trek, there were 36 of us who'd all raised a similar amount. That's a lot of money for charity.

Well done Sal, that's terrific. This seems to have turned into a charity themed thread, and I think I will open another on that theme alone. Coming up.

Thank You jordondog and lady1 for your "congrat's". I truly appreciate it. I did hear some good 'Human Interest' news here on my local news. It seems that there is a football team, kind of like a little league baseball team. The kids were about 8 to 10 years old, I'm guessing. Anyway, there was this little boy on the team and his Dad had to go to Iraq, before his son's first football game, and wasn't going to see his son play ball for the first time, or at all this year. So the 'league' changed the schedule so his son's team could play their first game the day before 'Dad' shipped out to Iraq. It brought tears to my eyes when I seen that newscast and interview with the Dad. My heart goes out to those children whose Dad's, Mom's and I have seen where both parents are in Iraq and/or Afganistan. It just has to be so very hard on these kids. Anyway, that is my 'Good News', 'Human Interest' item from here in Michigan. Everyone, take care.

I forgot to add that all the kids signed the games football so the Dad could take it to Iraq with him for a 'Good Luck Charm' Pretty cool.
