According to a news story, there is allegations of a referee fixing games. Note the story:

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/07/23/AR2007072301724.html?hpid=sec-sports

Everyone is innocent until proven guilty. I have watched a lot of NBA and I am not going to watch it again. I am Canadian and since Toronto got a team in the NBA, I started to watch and enjoyed it but now I don't have the same interest.

I think the hardest games to fix is NHL and NFL but MLB and NBA is easy to fix.
What do you guys think of this story? What are your reactions?

The ramifications are huge if he did. Basketball is one sport where the officials really do control the outcome of the game. Could be very easy to throw a game. If he is found guilty, combine this with the Jerry Crawford-Tim Duncan (one of the mellowest guys, I do not like the Spurs in the slightest but I have respect for Duncan, a great player) debacle, throws a lot of questions towards the officials. It's time for the NBA to change their policy of keeping the officials at God-Like status and hold them accountable on questionable calls, just like they (well, should do more) do in the NFL.

I think he's guilty. There's no proof out for the public, but I can have my assumptions. What I don't get is if they had their investigation going on him for months (that's what I heard I believe)why then didn't they go ahead and suspend him with pay to protect the game? That's what they should've done.

I agree with you. I think they should have suspeended him with pay.

This may end up as a good thing.

NBA Official makes a wrong call in a game, they must be held immediately accountable. Suspended automatically if it's something overly suspicious.

Different sport, but thinking about fixing games. Remember the 2nd year the Jaguars and Panthers were in the NFL and they each went to their respective championship games? Well, odds in Vegas at the beginning of the season of them meeting in the Super Bowl was 100,000:1 (later increased to 1,000,000:1). You see something like that, why NOT throw down 5 or 10 bucks?

Can you imagine if that had actually happened, those two teams winning one more game apiece and meeting in the Super Bowl? Vegas would have been bankrupted, losses in the trillions. Absolutely no proof whatsoever but I'm betting (no pun intended) the fix was in on one of those championship games.

Football, especially, so often games are won and lost on 1 bad referee call. Trust me, I know, every Raider game is always 11 against 18. Basketball, less so, but the refs have a tremendous impact on the game; they control the outcome more than the players do.
