A while back I talked about the design of book jackets. Now I'd like to talk about a special line of paperbacks published in the 60's: Avon, whose 40's paperbacks were the pulpiest around, overhauled their paperback design for a time in the early 60's and introduced a different, slightly more sophisticated look by rounding the upper and lower righthand corners. I have a few of these in my collection, including Henry Roth's "Call It Sleep". tjoebb};>

Tjoe, You are making me think about jacket covers more! I never really paid attention.
The only thing I have noticed, (and hate!) is that they are reissuing a lot of books with new jackets. I have grabbed a book and sat down to read it, only to find out it was published two years ago, and I had read it already. They changed the jacket so I didn't recognize it. Now I always check the dates or read part of it before purchasing. Catherine Coulter recently reissued one of her first suspense novels with a new jacket, but at least the blurb on the back cover explained that it had been done.

I like the "Hunks" on the covers of the romance novels! WooHoo
