I think a bookshelf says a lot about the person who owns it. My bookshelf is crammed with all sizes, colors and shapes of books on many diffrent subjects. I usually organize my books by subject. All my sci-fi books are at the top. I have a little gargoyle guarding my mystery books, and my old teddy bear sits on the shelf holding my ACADAC awards. My book shelf is 5 shlefes high, two books deep, and filled to the brim with books. Disorganized but full of all sorts of neat stuff, and has orginazation within KAOS when it comes to my faveorite books. But I'm rambling, What dose your bookshlef look like? ------------------ "There's no point in being grown up if you cant be chilidish sometimes!"-Dr.Who

Sometimes when I'm bored or I need to relax; I organize my bookshelves. I'm really running out of room though. Two cases, seven shelves total, one doubled up. The top shelves are my favorite books, and they are generally organized by size--the oversized ones need the top, open shelf, that sort of thing. Mostly they are science fiction and my favorite books from childhood, but there are at least two shelves of books I haven't read. My bookshelf at college is much more sparse; about 25 books total.

bookSHELF? bookSHELF? Whaddya mean shelf? My book room (yes, I'm serious) is what's supposed to be the apartment's second bedroom. It's 8x8 and the walls are lined with those PVC utility shelves, with five shelves each (that's as far up as I can get them before hitting the ceiling). The books are alphabetized by author, except for anthologies and biographies (title and subject, respectively). I have separate shelves in separate places for computer books (by the computer, whaddya know) and horse-related/handicapping books (near the dining room). R (down to about 2000 books)

Organize! Whadaya mean organize? I haven't bought a book in years. Our public library supplies all the reading material that I can ever use. However, I do have 3 large bookcases: encyclopaedia brittanica (1972 edition) on the bottom of one for stabilizing weight. Above them are books that we have bought in the past or from our semi-annual library sell-off. Stephen King, Rudyard Kipling, Ernest Hemingway, Mark Twain.... the favorite authors of genre books. There is a shelf of children's books for when the grandkids visit, but they just want to watch videos. Plenty of space for the wife's knick-knacks that sandwich themselves between books. I have old coin-collecting books; a book on how to fly an airplane; a copy of Robin Hood that I've had since I was 12 years old; a 1919 copy of instructions for the typist that I got in the library sale (remember typewriters?); In other words my collection can be described as eclectic. I really wish that I could get rid of most of them. They haven't been read in many years, but I hate to discard memories. One day, when we don't have libraries anymore, we will have to re-invent them because there is no adequate substitute for the smell of paper and ink and the ability to put a sliver of paper between the pages, turn out the lights, and go to sleep.

Most of my books I either pass on or give to the library. But the ones I have kept are ones that I think in are very helpful in learning about yourself..so my book shelf looks like I am a Psychologist...LOL! ------------------ Sandalwood's Cosmic Creations: Working with the magic of love....

Mine's pretty empty - all the stuff I've read goes back up north to my mum. I've got a bedside cupboard with stuff still to read, and a nice little bookshelf with things I've finished - organised in no particular order!

My poor bookshelf needs a serious makeover! I only have one, it´s in my room, not too big so it´s jam-packed with stuff. It´s got three shelves, but I improvised and used the top also...and the space on the floor around it! The middle shelf is actually curving. My book collection can be described as eclectic, a little bit of everything to keep me entertained. Well, almost everything... not a big fan of cheesy romance paperbacks. Also, I´ve got knick-knacks galore piled up on it: candles, incense, blue bottles, picture frames, stones, a sleeping ceramic kitty, and a green painted pewter dragon keeping an eye on all my stuff

I mainly keep hard and large books on the sides and small and soft books in the middle. What makes up the bulk of my personal library is textbooks, orsen scott card books, calvin and hobbes, religion and philosophy books, adn books of sheet music, and painters. ------------------ When life gives you a lemon, wing it right back and add some lemons of your own. -Calvin(Bill Watterson)

Mine are all over the floor. Like forest spouting up (actually respouting). My only regret is that I don't have a bookroom in outerspace. imagine the luxury of having books in full-3-dimensional disarray and floating all around me. Boookshelves are interesting inventions, but entirely unnecessary... ------------------ http://www.allchallenges.com Forums, Resources, Newsletters for Imaginative Problem Solving

I used to have bookshelves...but after moving so much I decided they were better off staying in boxes. I don't want to "decorate" this place because we want to build a home. Like others, I get most of my books from the library. Why buy a book when I can get it for free??

I also prefer library or other people's book. I read my books much much slower or not at all because there's no deadline so I procrastinate... ------------------ http://www.allchallenges.com Forums, Resources, Newsletters for Imaginative Problem Solving. Forum ad profit donated to charity.

That's a neat idea didi! I wish there really were such things as floating librarys. I have some "box bookcases" in my basment from when my family moved, but whenever I go to get a book from one of them, I usually find that somone has put it underneath about 10 other boxes full of various heavy things which I have to move to get my book. Needless to say I end up with my book but am then to tired to read it.

I have a storage unit in Vermont 10x30 that is full of boxes of books. I hope this year to get them and sort them out, to find the ones that I want to keep and to sell the rest.

It broke my heart to leave all my books when I came to Canada. My husband and I live in a small apartment with books stuffed in cupboards, drawers, wardrobes, etc. Difficult to find a particular book when you want it. We're in the process of buying a house and while He is checking the structure and dry wall, I'm going, "Yeah! A bookcase would be perfect against that wall."

Well, I have 6 shelfs (quite long in length) along one side of my game/spare room. This room is purely mine...girlfriend not allowed in...On these shelfs I have several hundred copies of comics...ranging from the X-men to Spiderman...(2 shelfs needed) 1 shelf for all of my Star Wars Books and other Sci-Fi... The other shelves stacked with videos of the lastest films and classics. Oops almost forgot...my cd collection (well part of it..only about 300 on the shelf) That's what my bookshelves / everything else looks like.... ------------------ Welcome to my Snake Pit..
