I was just wondering if anyone else out there has a favourite, or a band that they listen to a lot, that none of their friends and family seem to know of, never mind listen to?

I'm a fairly big Flyleaf fan, but no one I associate with seems to know who the heck it is they are.

Anyone else got a similar "problem"?

Capercaillie - in the 10 years I've known about them I met only one person who knows them and listens to their music.

Sorry to admit I haven't heard of Flyleaf .

The Weekend Guitar Trio are a great Estonian jazz group who I doubt many people will have heard of.

Well worth hunting out.

Not very tasteful, but they were great in their prime. The Dead Milkmen from Philly. RIP Dave Blood.

There's a great Irish band I've seen once or twice called Siucra - Gaelic for "sugar", and they do have a sweet sound. Very nice ensemble, but they only play together sporadically anymore.

YES The Dead Milkmen are awesome! I love that band!

I have many that nobody has heard of. One of my favorite bands is Bracket and nobody knows of them.

Bracket? "Talk Show" is one of my favorite songs and I have some of their Caroline and Fat Wreck Chords stuff. Good little melodic band!

I have no idea where to start here. I currently think that Bat For Lashes might be the love of my life. Natasha Khan's sub-Björk singing is really doing it for me. Sing-Sing are also brilliant, and contain one of the former members of Lush, who I also loved... Then there's The Knife, Husky Rescue... but Bat for Lashes first today, I think!

I love 'The Men They Couldn't Hang,' and hardly anybody I know ever seems to have heard of them.

Well living in Aus, i seem to listen to alot of obsucre bands, some of my American friends have heard of them, but none of my friends here or family know any of my fav band's (besides MCR, because they hear it 24/7)
Here are some of my other fav's they dont know (and dont want to know becuase they think it is too heavy)
Trivium
3 Days Grace
Monster Magnet
Alter Bridge
Zebrahead

I've heard of Trivium and Alter Bridge- they're actually really good. So you're no longer alone

A-Teens are actually fairly well known here in S Africa- one of my favourite songs is their collaboration with Alice Coopers for "School's Out."

The rest of you, you're right. I've never heard of any of those bands!

So you know Trivium, but do you like them?

I do, yeah, definitely. I have "For Whom The Bell Tolls" in my Favourites playlist on my iTunes Music Player.

How mad would you be if I told you I'd seen both of these live since February?

I really like 3 Days Grace. They may not be so obscure over here because I have downloaded some of their music on my iPod. And goodness knows, I don't know of any obscure bands.

edited for spelling

Trivium *plays* exceptionally well. I betray myself as an old fart when I say that I just can't take their vocals.

Anyone ever heard of 'Nevermore'? They may just not be too well known in England. My hubby and I went to see them and only about 30 people turned up! Was very surprised they're really good

Edit because they are good, not god!

FlyLeaf is one of my FAVORITE bands, so you are so not alone there. I've seen them twice in the last 12 months, and the live show is almost as good at the album.

Trivium, AlterBridge, and 3 Days Grace are pretty popular in my area.

I love a band called HURT, and Evans Blue, any one heard of either of those bands?

I like Evans Blue pretty well.

A band that nobody seems to know about in the U.S. is Coheed and Cambria. Some people that know about them (mostly from me) don't like them because of the singer's voice, (it's pretty high-pitched) but some others like his style of singing (me included).

OMG you have seen them? Man you rock, over here in Aus no-one i know seems to know who they are. How good were the concerts? (I know i am going off topic here) I am going to see Trivium in November, just before i go to MCR again!!!

I think 'obsucre' is hard to come across, becuase i think it depends where you live, if i lived in the USA i would be listening to the same as everyone else. Over here people just think i am weird. I mean over here in Syd, people thought i was weird when i was like 9 and 10 listening to Greenday, because no-one knew who they were, but that would have come down to age.

Have any of you heard of Nofx?

I Freaking LOVE Coheed and Cambria. I have a friend that is naming her little girl Cambria Jade in honor of the band. They pretty much rock my face off.

I personally like a local band called Paradigm Shift (but they re-named themselves Par-a-dime Shift because no-one could pronounce the name.) They are combo of screamer rock and christian rock.

Also there is the band Hill Valley Preservation Society. They do modern techno-y covers of 80's songs, tv themes and video game music.
