Hey !
I just finished reading the seventh harry potter book! It was breathtaking!
Does anybody else know any book that comes close to being as good as these harry potter series?
I like sci-fi, fantasy, and adventure type books if anyone wonders.
If you know any good books please share!! =D

Thank you

You know, if you don't mind a bit of dirty action and cursing, try The Dark Tower Series by Stephen King. If you don't like Stepgen King, or never read any of his books, this series is a good place to start. A lot of his other books have similarities to characters and places in the series. Quite fun to follow. It's seven books too, like Harry Potter.

I know of a highly addicting series: Twilight, by Stephenie Meyer. If mythological creatures in an otherwise normal world is your thing.

And Scott Westerfeld wrote the Uglies series, which is also very good. His Midnighters books are also worth reading.

If you don't mind teenage spies and books that aren't quite for adults, but overall, entertaining, Anthony Horowitz's Alex Rider series is quite amusing. Just thought about that.

All of Tamora Pierce's books are great.

So is the Bitterbynde series by Cecilia Dart-Thornton if you don't mind very very detailed descriptions and a first book where the first couple of chapters don't make much sense.

Try Raymond E. Fiests books, start with Magician it's awesome. Also David Eddings, The Belgariad and the Mallorean. It comes to about ten books so that should keep you busy for a while.

The Pern series by Anne McCaffrey is very good too, although if you stop reading after her son joins in the writing they're better
Dragonlance Chronicles by Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman are good too - there are two trilogies of those.

Robert Jordans Wheel of Time series (Excellent)
Terry Goodkind's Sword of Truth series (Excellent)
George R.R. Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire series (I just started reading the second book...They are amazing. My favorite of the 3 series)

All three of these series are not complete (GRRM is not going to be finished for a long while), and the other two have 1 book left to be completed.

They are very long series but if you want to devote that much time to books, I would definitly recommend these 3

Speaking of Book Recommendations, can anyone head me in the right direction for books of the supernatural kind, something dark, not to stereotypicall, kind of books. I need something to read, i was reading Harry Potter, but obviously they are done and dusted, collecting dust on my bookshelf until later down the road if i ever read them all again.

And as for you, i have a series you should look into, although it is an acquired taste of reading, but i really enjoyed it, and so have the people i have told to read it - Ecstasy - Three Tales Of Chemical Romance by Irvine Welsh

MCRismyLIFE , if you read back from the start of this very thread, you will find that it was started with a question very similar to yours. Maybe the answers will help you too.

The Isles of Glory series are great. I'm not sure who they are by, but I think there are 3 books in the series.

Have you ever tried the "Noughts and Crosses" trilogy by Malorie Blackman? They're probably my favourite set of books around.

Another author to try is Tess Gerritsen, particularly if you enjoy crime novels.

I see that you like fantsasy as well. In that case, another author to give a shot at is Phillip Pullman, particularly his "Dark Materials" trilogy. Those were also a wonderful read.

Happy reading!

Supernatural - 'Anita Blake' series by Laurell K Hamilton
'Tithe', 'Ironside' and 'Faerie' by Holly Black - more of a young adult set but interesting nonetheless.
I just read two of a new series by Rob Thurman - Nightside I think and the other has "Moon" in the title - they're the first two of the "Caliban" series and were ever so good.
Kim Harrison's "Rachel Morgan" series is good too, and has it's amusing moments - more lighthearted than Anita Blake.
'Faerie' by Raymond E Feist is good, as is "The Thief of Always" by CLive Barker

The first 10 or 11 are brilliant, but after that it degenerates into "porn" and becomes all about Anita's sex life - the brilliantly plotted stories seem to fall by the wayside a bit.
I've kept going with them cos they are good, and am hoping Hamilton will get back to story at some point. There is hope, the most recent one wasn't quite as lacking in actual story as the two before it, but it'll be good if she gets back to letting the police work and plots come through again.

If you are looking for something darker then I agree with Rowena that Faerie Tale by Raymond E.Feist is an excellent read.

I'm a bit of a Clive Barker fan - I loved Weaveworld. The Great and Secret Show was a book I couldn't put down until I was finished.

Like garyfire, I recomend The Wheel of Time Series by Robert Jordan, not light reading and will keep you busy for quite awhile!

Definately, I'm only up to the 3rd one, but I have been putting it off since it is so long.

To find new books that I may not have heard about or authors that I'm not sure of, I've actually been taking the literature quizzes. I find that the quizzes provide a wonderful review for the book, even the ones with spoilers don't really spoil the entire book. I have found several authors that otherwise I wouldn't have read.
