This will be easy for Canadians. I was wondering how many provinces and territories can people name without googling. There are 10 provinces and three territories.

You are right, too easy for Canadians. Even with the tricky bit of a fairly recent change to the official name of one of them.

Wow! That is really good, jon! I have to ask if you knew that Newfoundland was a province or is that the one you have to google.

I can name all 13 of them without googling as well. I've been to only one, and what I saw was breathtaking.

Where were you, Dave? Seeing you are in Texas, I'm thinking you might have come up to my neck of the woods.

My sister lives in Florida and her next-door-neighbors are "snowbirds" (folks from up north who keep winter homes in the south) who are from Canada. They call Florida the 11th Province because there are so many Canadians there! Lovely people...she keeps an eye on their house during the summer, and they keep her supplied with Tim Horton's coffee.

Yes, people where I live consider Florida the 11th province. It is so beautiful that we keep going to Florida year after year. Florida is awesome! Anyone that comes to Canada, knows that it is famous for Tim Horton's coffee. By the way, we mostly go back to Florida not only for the weather but to see such a kind and friendly people again.

I couldn't remember the last territory- the rest came to me easily.

BTW, we've had Tim Hortons springing up all over the place here - everyone seems to like them!

billiejj,I wish a Tim Hortons would spring up here in Hawaii! I guess my best bet would be to hope for one to open up in Florida, then I could visit when I go see my sister.

trevor1968, there are most definitely only 50 American states. Alaska and Hawaii were the last added in 1959.

Here's a question for you Canadians: what exactly is the difference between a province and a territory?

It is hard to explain but this website gives the easiest explanation:
http://www.kidzone.ws/geography/constitution.htm

However, if there is any Canadians that can explain it to missmu, please feel free to do so. It would make it easier if someone explains it well.

Actually, that pretty much sums it up. The Territories do have territorial governments, much like the provincial government, but they have a little less power. They have a voice in constitutional matters, but not a large one.
I may be wrong, maybe someone from the Territories will correct me, but I believe NWT at least works on the consensus system, rather than the adversarial one of the provincial governments.
To an American, even our provincial governments would seem to have fairly limited powers, if I understand it correctly. The way I was taught in school, in Canada, everything not directly stated as a provincial responsibility is that of the federal government. In the US, everything not spelled out as federal jurisdiction belongs to the states. (Roughly speaking)

In general, Canadians prefer not to talk or think about the Constitution, as the last time we tried it, it gave us a headache. (and a big bill)

I beleive it was in Brownies or Girl Guides that I was taught a song to remember the 10 provinces (as there were only three territories I guess they figured we'd remember those easily;)
Newfoundland and PEI, Nova scotia, and New Brunswick, Quebec, Ontario, from there you'll see Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta, BC.
The eastern provinces were sung slow and the rest sung fast to the tune of london bridges falling down!
I've never forgotten it!
