I really love & admire the actor Owen Wilson who was in so many great movies I enjoyed watching, like Shanghai Noon with Jackie Chan, plus he was in Wedding Crashers & so many others to name. Anyways, what hits home about his suicide attempt is that people must realize that movie stars are people like us everyday people! Of course they get depressed & sad. They hurt & bleed like us. I'm just wanting everyone to say a special prayer for him, that he will get the help he needs. I have 2 reasons to feel strong about this. # 1 I , myself, in the past attempted it & I am so grateful that intervention happened to save my life(because you never know what is going to push a person over the edge, so never judge harshly)
#2 I was an intensive care nurse (RN) for years & saw the results of these attempts
A.My heart always went out to them because I understood. There were some co workers that said they had no sympathy for them & I would put them straight by having my say & that was" You have no right to judge. You have NO idea what is going through that persons mind! You have no idea then of the pain & suffering it takes for a person to take such a step. Unless you have walked a mile in their shoes as the saying goes, then do not judge".
Anyways, didn't mean to sound like I was on a soapbox preaching. My intentions are good. I just wish the best for Owen & to every single person out there. No matter who you are, what you are going through, You are a special person. You are a child of God & he loves you. If you are depressed yourself, Talk to someone, never give in to that urge because suicide is final. There are no replays on it. You can't rewind once you've done that. Take care my friends. Hugssssss

Hadn't heard about this - such a shame. I really quite like him.

SO hard to judge a book by its cover - his life looks pretty good from the outside, doesn't it?

So tragic..I feel like crying now, for Owen Wilson but even more so for all who ever feel the way he did. I pray to have the wisdom to be able to help people who feel the way he does. There are times in my life I've felt so much emotional pain part of me has wanted to quit totally but thankfully my desire for life has prevailed. I really wish I could help those people in some way.

Very sad. I hope he pulls through and becomes stronger. I love his movies and he seems like a really nice guy. Everyone has problems from time to time and feel they can't carry on so we need to keep him in our prayers and not judge him.

I'd just noticed this on the BBC website and was shocked by it. I also like him and find his movies very entertaining. I hope he is left in peace by the press so that he can recover in peace and quiet.

I admire Owen Wilson, and brother Luke, as well, for their acting talents.
However, I have very little sympathy for someone (anyone) who would commit suicide. I'm sure that sounds cruel and heartless, but we all know who is really hurt by a loved ones death. It isn't fair to put that on those left behind. If you need help, get it.

I agree with you to an extent, it is a seflish thing to do but there must be something seriously going wrong there for people who feel suicidal to not want to get help. They can't be thinking 'clearly' if they feel that is their only option.

Suicide is definitely a road of horror for those who are alive and have to deal with the aftermath of another taking his or her life. I would NEVER have the guts to do it and no matter how bad things may seem at a given time, I know through experience they always change. I have very close friend whose sister hung herself in the family garage 3 years ago. He has gone through all the anger, guilt, helplessness, etc. and cannot get the "picture" out of his mind or dreams. He was, unfortunately, the one to find her and last to speak with her. Thay had a HUGE fight 10 hours before she took a bunch of pills and decided "enough". He has shared this with many people and hopes that possibly his story has kept someone else from that final act. We talk about it quite a lot because I know he needs to get things off his chest. Invariably, we are both sobbing by the time he's done, but he always ends by saying "At least Diane's pain has stopped."

There is another thread about suicide - this one was started about Owen Wilson in particular.

Personally, I don't know Owen Wilson, but I do hope that he gets what he needs to get him through each and every day for a long and healthy life. I wish this for any person out there who goes through the pain of depression, and the major trauma of a suicide attempt.

Sorry I posted. It goes without saying, but I guess I SHOULD have said, I hope Owen is alright and gets the help he needs. Next time I will have to look for another thread on particular subjects before I post.

As ecnalubma, there's a thread already in the other forum specifically for debating the pro/con of suicide. This one's just for what happened to the actor. If you'd like to debate the merits of such as opposed to this specific instance, please use the other thread.

Yeppers, I'm brand new here & I started the post just because it was breaking news & it was about Owen Wilson, an actor that most of us do get pleasure from watching his movies. He is such a funny guy & seems so sweet on film & has a childlike quality. Yes, he attempted suicide but the main point of this was to bring attention to Owen & to say a prayer for him. Thanks for everyone that posts responses.I can tell everyone is very caring & thoughtful.

If anything, we should make sure he doesn't watch the credits for The Cable Guy again. Knowing that one is connected to that movie, well, that might just push anyone over the edge...
