Lovely sign, Mother Goose; and congrats on the new camera, Sue.

I like the name of this pub in the Old Town of Hastings. Despite the folksiness of its new sign, I don't think it was ever a coaching inn; but it is the first pub you come to if you enter the Old Town from the Old London Road, and the last one on the way out. I suppose it also makes us think of the habitual boozer who is always first into the pub and last to leave it.

Those are all great photos..mine are almost all nature, so I like seeing the signs and the buildings, etc., that the rest of you are doing! Makes me think I need to branch out a little. Jar, I think the "Back" of the spoonbill was the best shot -- it's all about those gorgeous feathers in that one!
Ok, here's mine, these were some really unusual clouds at sunset last October here in the desert.

Congrats on the new camera Sue and a nice first shot by the way. Welcome djsqal, and those clouds are amazing, no wonder some people think they've spotted a UFO with clouds like that.

The weather here is starting to get chilly so my thoughts have been about warmer places. This is a photo from our trip to Tahiti.

This was taken on our hotel grounds looking out at the pool. Beyond that is a small lagoon then the ocean with the Island of Moorea in the distance.

It reminds me of the movie South Pacific Argus --

Bali Ha'i may call you,
Any night, any day,
In your heart, you'll hear it call you:
"Come away...Come away."

I find looking at other people's photos gives me lots of ideas for taking photos I would never have thought of before and this comes in very handy with my hobby of scrapbooking. For example, I would never have thought of taking a photo of the wires in the Telecom box, however, I was very interested to see that because my husband works for Telstra (previously Australia's Telecom).

Ren's photo reminded me of the time my husband took his mother to the local telephone exchange for a look at his workplace and to see what he actually did for a living. She was amazed to see the thousands of cables and wires running all over the place. When we left she turned to me and said "Now I have a whole new respect for my son".

Congrats on the new camera Sue.

My brother-in-law's father made these. Judging by the number of them in his basement and at his cottage, plus the ones in my sister's home and with other family (those pictured are at my Mum's), he's made hundreds over the years!

I agree, MG, I think I will be looking for different subjects for my photos in the future. It's like exercise for the brain; it feels like a stretch to try looking or thinking about something in a way you never have before.

Sue, could you please tell me about the Icho Tower (? I think that's what you called it) that you took a photo of...it looks so lonely and silent out there on that little island.

Here's mine for the day. Husband and I went to Las Vegas for our anniversary in April. I saw these fur coats in a shop window. I'm not real keen on fur wearing, but the prices were what floored me..over $5000 for some of these. Think how many 3rd world families you could feed with that much money!

A welcoming sight. The approach to a local pub door. Photo taken a few weeks ago.

Well as today is talk like a Pirate Day I thought I would post an appropriate photo. This is a photo of one of those fun Pirate Ship excursions you can go on in the Caribbean. Yo Ho and a bottle of Rum.

I haven't been able to get any new photos, for one reason or another, so this photo is of the view out our motel room a few years ago when we visited Curacao. Hopefully, I'll be able to get out with the camera later this week.

My mother and all of her neighbours got new refrigerators today. I believe these are the old ones, lined up ready to be hauled away.

Great cloud pic, djsgal.

I never knew it was Talk like a Pirate Day, but I like the ship. Pieces of eight! (or maybe that's talking like a parrot).

This is one of the more impressive of the "gentlemen's" clubs in Pall Mall, London - the Athenaeum

I was running out of new ideas a while ago and the Flickr groups started asking for more similar topics like red phone boxes, station entrances and bus stops. Well there's little shortage of all those here and my last area is people as no two shots are the same.

This is the M1 motorway iteslf, built along the 'BedPan line' (Bedford to St Pancras) and the welcome sign for London. The bad news is they now want to close this junction in rush hours and send everyone to where I live which is already packed from 5pm onwards.

This is one of my yesterday photos. I love it except for the blue light bit spoiling the bottom, I must try to find out how to remove it without cropping as I want the water on the beach.

Great well-composed photo Sue. I suppose the the blue part is because of the strong light coming in at a certain angle. I think this can cause a kind of 'bloom' on the lens. It could be carefully 'cloned' out (an art in itself). See if your editing program can do that and maybe read the help file on it.

Thank you for your kind words Sara and Martin, it is indeed St Ouen's Bay. I will certainly try cloning Martin, I will do it on a copy so as not to destroy the original.

I will be asking my tutor how it happened and how to prevent it again - it might be that I should have attached the hood.

Another from the same day, Icho Tower again. The last one was from one part of the bay and in the distance you can see parts of some of the smallest islands, probably Brecqhou and Jethou but I am not really sure. This one shows Sark and when I zoom in I can see buildings which is amazing as it is rather a long way. On the other hand it could be Guernsey. Sark is almost vertically north of us, Guernsey is slightly more north-west. Guernsey is 27 miles away, Sark is 29 miles. I think with hindsight it is probably Guernsey. I have this one as my wallpaper.

To see a larger version click here It really is exceptional to see the other islands so well.

Here is a photo of a statue in the Plazuela de la Rogaitva in San Juan, Puerto Rico.

According to legend, the British, while laying siege to the city in 1797, mistook the flaming torches of a rogativa -- religious procession -- for Spanish reinforcements, and beat a hasty retreat. In this little plaza statues of a bishop and three women commemorate the legend.

One of my typical photos, another road sign, this one in Temple Fortune. It sums up suburban London to me in many ways.

Ren, what are mooncakes?

Here's a photo from Sequoia National Park here in California. The kids are walking inside a fallen giant sequoia. It's been there for over 100 years, and because of chemicals in the bark, it decays very slowly.
