In California penal code, a nine nine five motion asks the trial judge in a felony case to dismiss one or more of the charges. The defense makes the motion after a California preliminary hearing but before trial.

I think for the final 1000 post, all contributors to this incredible thread should find one interesting fact for the final post. so the glory doesn't go to one person? Opinions??
(Sad that Funnystar, who started the whole thing off , seems not to be an active member any more)

OK then
This is the most fascinating fact there is in Google:(I don't get the second bit at all)
1000 or one thousand is the natural number following 999 and preceding 1001. In most English-speaking countries, it is often written with a comma separating the thousands unit: 1,000.

It may also be described as the short thousand in historical discussion of medieval contexts where it might be confused with the Germanic concept of the "long thousand" (1200).

A journey of a thousand miles begins with just one step. Kind of like this chain which began so many years ago with a single post.

I had noticed that the original poster didn't stay long with us after all, but his/her legacy remains. Well done all!

Ren, that looks to me something like a regular dozen (12) vs a baker's dozen (13), but I had never heard of it in relation to a short and long thousand. You have sparked my curiosity!

Wikipedia has an article about it. A hundred is five score, and a twelfty is six score, or 120. A "long thousand" is exactly ten twelftys. It seems to stem from a mis-translation of an old germanic word (120) which had no direct latin equivalent and was thus rounded off to a latin C (100).

And, if we were to continue, 1001 is 40% of my username here on FunTrivia.

I don't know that a never-ending version of this game appeals to me.

The objective of reaching a fixed number (high, but achievable) attracted me to it in the first place. Originally I was interested in seeing how long it would take, never in the least expecting anything like 13 years! At the end sheer doggedness and a desire not to see the game fade away without achieving that goal kept me at it when it was difficult to find orignal subject matter to post.

I've just realised how negative my previous post sounds, and that was not my intention. I guess I really just wanted to explain why I was sort of dropping out at this stage, and not put anyone else off who may want to continue it.

Yes, it was well worth persevering with, and a real achievement already that our combined efforts got us past the 1 000 post-line smile
