I was just wondering if any of you 'crafty people' out there had any craft ideas on what I can use used cd's and dvd's for. You know, like the ones we all have been getting in the mail over the years for internet services and just ones we don't need anymore. I have so many of them and I just can't throw them out. I know that there must be something really cool to make with them.

I tried to use the search engine to see if there have been any posts on this before and I couldn't find any.

So if you have any really neat ideas, I would truly appreciate it.

Thanks, and Take Care.

They are very easy to drill through, so I have attached a small length of fishing line to each, and hung them in the garage as decorations.

Perhaps they can be framed, and made into hand mirrors?

When I was in primary school, the little kids used to attach fins and tails to them and make them look like fish. They were good decorations, as Ozzz said.

If you make cards you can stick one on the front, shiny side out, and incorporate it into the design.

Not crafty, but you can use them as coasters for both drinks and to put under a vase to stop marking of furniture.

I have made a number of "CD cards" over the years, by sticking the CD/DVD onto the card and then putting peel off's onto the CD - usually musical instruments and music notes

One of my favorite tricks is to throw them into the microwave for a few seconds. This causes the shiny data side to get this cool rectangular crackle pattern. then you can use them for any of the above projects. also, you can glue 5 of them together shiny/crackly side out to form an open-topped box for business cards, post cards, etc. You just have to watch out for the open corners.

You can melt them in the oven like records to make small bowls and votive holders. Attach them together into a curtain. Crackle and cut and use pieces for jewlery.

They also make nice mobiles, especially if you attach some nice shiny things to them like beads or prisms.

One of my friends creates personalised coasters out of them. She does decoupage on them and then lacquers over the pictures. The decoupaged pictures reflect something about the person to whom she is giving the coaster. She created an exquisite Sherlock Holmes themed one for Maynooth.
