Jon, who do you think will be in the finals of the world cup. In your opinion, which teams got a legitimate shot at the world cup.

Trevor - Canada probably have their best chance against Japan on 25th. It should be a fascinating clash of styles and I'm looking forward to the match. To be honest, I wouldn't be at all surprised if there wasn't a single northern hemisphere team left by the time we get to the semis, but of course as a Scotland fan I'm hoping for the best! Jonno, I'd agree with you on the Big 3, and if you look way up there (points to top of thread) I tipped SA at the beginning...

Thank you Quiz. I will certainly watch the last games for Canada and I hope they win one game. Since watching the World Cup, I love rugby better than the Canadian and American football. It is an excellent game. I like watching Wales, England, South Africa, Australia and New Zealand.

Oh how I wish we still had Barry John, Gareth Edwards, Mervyn Davis, Charlie Faulkner, and all the other GREAT Welsh players of the 70's - back in the days when WALES dominated rugby !

Jonno - I was in Edinburgh on Saturday - seeing the All Blacks in full flow was just awesome (I, personally, would have given Doug Howlett MoftM). Delboy - don't you think the WRU made their biggest mistake getting rid of Mike Ruddock and caving in to Player Power?

lol QB - that's a debate that could go on for years ! I really wouldn't like to speculate as to exactly whats gone wrong with Welsh rugby over the last 25 years or so, but I don't think we will EVER recapture our former glory

An ex of mine (who played for Wales) thought that getting rid of the grammar schools was what caused the start of the decline...

The Rugby Union World Cup only began in 1987. If it had , say, started in 1967 and every 4 years , then the Wales sides that played in those days would have won it 2, 3 , maybe even 4 times? Obviously, we'll never know but I can remember watching these huge men in red tops and sideburns and with names like Ivor and Mervyn and Ieuan beating Scotland, then Ireland, then France and then the English to win the grand slam.
It was just one of those unexplainable , almost freakish times when over half the side were genuine world class players.

Remember when the Japanese first came to Wales? One of my abiding Rugby memories is Mervyn Davies running for the line with three Japanese down each leg - and not pausing at all! :-)

Anyway - to get back to the current lot - huge congratulations to Georgia for thrashing Namibia (why aren't they a better team, considering their location?) and well done and bad luck to Canada for the draw!

Lest we not forget what a fantastic result, not just for the Fiji side but for all the "smaller but improving nations".
We had England having to dig pretty deep to beat Tonga and, as I sit here, the Scottish side are only 2 pts up with 10 mins left against Italy. And Canada made Australia work a lot harder than the used to do against so-called weaker nations.
And Wales at least contributed to an excellent match. Well done, Fiji.
