October 14, 1926: "Winnie-the-Pooh" Published

The British writer, A. A. Milne wrote a series of stories for his son, Christopher Robin, in which his son's stuffed animal toys (a bear, a tiger, a donkey, and a pig) were brought to life. The bear, Winnie-the-Pooh, was the title character of the book published on October 14, 1926. Since then, it has sold over twenty million copies, and Pooh has become one of the world's most beloved characters.

I did go into the bookshop owned by Christopher Robin , many years ago. He was a quiet, very polite man. What a dreadful life he had!!!Like many children of famous people he must have suffered... and probably more than many.

Winnie the Pooh is great (especially Tigger). I never read the books when I was a kid, but love the stories now.

Namaste, Shashwat..
His life was difficult in that he was the child of a celebrity for a start... but there were other circumstances which you can read about by going to Jojo's original post (at the beginning of this thread)and click on the words 'a history of Winnie -the -Pooh. That tells it better than I could.(When you get to the site, click on the name CR Milne.)

Well, Happy B'Day Winnie the Pooh

(Just spent a few minutes reading Christopher Robin's life story. Not a tragic life, but very very sad.)

Know how that bear got his name? From a real-life bear captured by Cpt. Harry Colebourn in White River, Ontario. He named it Winnepeg after his hometown in Manitoba and took it with him to England. He gave it to the London zoo when he served in WW1 and Milne and son Christopher saw the bear there,...well, now you know where that name came from! tjoeb};>
