Marcel Marceau, the world's greatest mime, has died in his 80's. Inspired by Charlie Chaplin, Marceau is best known for his "Bip" character, dressed in white overalls and a crushed top hat with a drooping red flower in it. You probably remember his having the only spoken word in Mel Brooks' "Silent Movie"!

Au Revoir, Marcel. The rest is silence. William Shakespeare, Hamlet

Yes, I remember his word was "no" in the movie. He was a great mime and I enjoyed watching him. RIP

Such a great entertainer! I remember him through my whole life. He will be sadly missed.

I wonder why many people have an intense dislike for mimes? Circus clowns too?

I must admit that, with all due respect to the late M. Marceau, I never understood the art. In fact, I find it annoying.

In Terry Partchett's 'Discworld' books, the Patrician of Ankh-Morpork, Lord Ventinari, feels much as you do, vendome. Anyone plying their trade within the city walls is liable to find themselves in a scorpion pit with 'Learn the words' written on the walls...

WOW! Tough bunch, those Ankh-Morporkinians. I wonder what Lord Ventinari and his fellow Patricians would do if you knew the words but stuttered? Hmmmmm.

I guess I just don't understand the art. First, it never seems to end. The mime you see at 2:00pm is still trying to escape the invisible 'box' when you pass by at 3:30pm. I mean, wouldn't he have suffocated sealed in a box for one and one-half hours without oxygen? But no; there he is, still feeling the invisible wall. And he's feeling the same damn spot he was feeling an hour ago on the same damn wall. And he's got the same simple-a**ed expression on his face like, "Why isn't this working?" And I'm supposed to watch this freak until he thinks he's finished?

Bring on the scorpions!
