Er, we don't have any railways here! Ah, hang on, we have a steam museum and I think they have trains - I have never been.

Ah, Sue - no trains here either. So I'll post this picture. This train engine used to be part of the Panama Railroad and was used during the construction of the Panama Canal. When I was a kid it was on display and we used to climb all over it. In the 1970s it was shipped from Panama to Paterson, New Jersey where it now lives with other engines at a museum. They don't let kids climb on it anymore (or adults for that matter).

This is a shot of the White Pass & Yukon Railroad train in Alaska. It's a beautiful trip that shows you the route the miners took when they had the gold rush to the Yukon.

Here's a train heading to Queensbury station and beyond to Stanmore from Kingsbury.

Great theme, I have so many suitable images it's difficult to choose just one, but here goes.
This is 'Brookfield', a tank engine (meaning it carried its own fuel and water instead of these being in a tender pulled by the locomotive). Brookfield was part of an order by Turkey for several of these locomotives, just prior to WWII. The war prevented delivery and Brookfield, then simply called 'tank engine 2613', was used by Brookfield foundry for hauling castings in Naval dockyards. It was retired in 1963, and left to quietly rust until bought for restoration by my friend in 1983. Over the next few years 2613 was restored and renamed 'Brookfield' after the foundry.

Only pic I have of a train. Taken nearly 12 years ago. The two girls at the top of the steps are my daughters. This train is at Shanty Town on the West Coast of New Zealand. I think it use to be used in the gold or maybe coal mines many years ago but now it just gives tourists rides up and down a short track.

All the train photos are so good! This is my contribution to the theme this week. Yesterday I stopped by a furniture store just to browse, and happened upon this great coffee table. The train runs all around the bottom, and when you turn the glass top, the train turns too. So clever! The saleslady told me they also have one that is a carousel.

The things I have to do for this site, today I took myself off to the Steam Museum which is the only place to find any trains here.

I had never been to this museum and despite not correcting the man when he charged me OAP rate for entrance (so saving 50p), I was still annoyed as it is SO crowded with exhibits that it is impossible to take any photographs without getting other exhibits or railings, chains etc spoiling the shots.

I have fiddled with the photo to try to remove some metal guard rails etc.



As you can see from this untouched photo, the engine was partially obscurred.

This is Kit on the little train at our childrens zoo.

This is a photo of Puffy, our local steam engine. She is dear to our hearts, giving rides to children and adults alike. Puffy was built in 1896, making her over a century old. Here is more information about her.
