Well, I tried finding one of the threads where we have discussed Firefox, but was unable so am posting a new thread. I had a problem with logging on to a site the other day and phoned tech support. The tech finally decided I needed to load Firefox and it would work for sure! Ha..... No, it did not work. The tech called me back with the solution to the problem (it was mine, not the computer's problem ). Having the solution to the problem, I decided to try Firefox for a few days before I uninstalled it. I used it for two days and then took it off my computer. The executable file was on my desktop anyway and I didn't need another file on top, for sure. Well, to my consternation I found that I actually missed it! (Sorry ren, I really needed to use "actually" this time. ) Things just seemed to load faster, and the tabs at the top were great. Don't know what I ever did without those tabs -- it is much, much easier traveling between different windows. I especially like it when I am looking in the photography thread and there are links to larger photos. I open them, and then just *snap* go back and forth between the tabs. I'm just sorry I couldn't be talked into trying it sooner. I just figured it was beyond my ken.

Firefox works generally well after installation but customisations can add more than is present straight out of the box. Perhaps try adding some extensions to see what they do. Firefox extensions add extra features to the browser. They can be un-installed or disabled if you decide not to keep them. ' Themes.' can give Firefox a totally different look. The number of Firefox extensions and themes runs into the hundreds. Extensions are not written by the Firefox developers. They are written by many enthusiastic and clever Firefox users. One word of warning. Adding too many extensions can slow down Firefox start-up times. Since your Firefox installation is new, it will be necessary to install the Firefox version of Flash Player in order to view the Flash content in web sites. Also, it's best to have the latest version of Java installed.

See? Just when one gets a new toy, one needs to get new toy accessories! My main goal in life is to have a speedy computer. To that end, I have nothing that is not critically important starting up when I turn on the computer. Don't know if I want to slow down Firefox when I start it. I'll give a couple things a try and see how it goes. I just looked at the Themes -- wow, they certainly have a lot to choose from. I am going to try just one, see how much things slow up. It will just be hard to figure out which one I want to try!

Might I recommend the 'Pimpzilla' theme...? I like the leopard spots. I have several downloaded that I occasionally switch between depending on my mood. It's very easy to do. I love Firefox.

The add-ons are addictive and do slow the start-up of Firefox but I NEED everyone of those listed below and hate it when the updates aren`t ready for the next version of Firefox.
Adblock Adblock Filterset.G.Updater All In One Gestures All In One Search Button Answers Colorfultabs Downthemall Ebaynegs Fast Video Downloads Fasterfox Firefox View Flashblock Foxlingo Full Fullscreen Hashcolouredtabs Highlight All I.E tab Image Toolbar Image Zoom Mediaplayerconnectivity MenuX Nuke Anything Enhanced Searchbar Autosizer Tabbrowser Preferences Tocryillic Tweaknetwork Unplug Videodownloader
I have a few themes loaded as well but only ever use Modern Alluminium or Silver Skin.

A few I find useful are: bbcodeXtra - Automatically adds various bbcode tags to forum posts. FireFTP - For uploading files to your web space. Mr Tech Local Install - Makes incompatible extensions compatible. Other useful functions. Reminderfox - Never forget a birthday or ANNIVERSARY . Fireform - Fills in forms with a mouse-click.

Well, I downloaded a theme, but nothing happened. Thought I followed all the instructions, but maybe I did something wrong. Do I need to run a .exe file or something?
Okay, cancel that. It is the "or something." I found it in tools and running the Halloween theme right now. It's a bit bright, but might just take some getting used to.

I've got the Halloween one running right now, too. Pretty cute, but I don't think I could look at it for too long. One of my most useful extensions is IE View, since quite a few gaming sites including the kids' ones my daughter goes to, are incompatible with Firefox. There are a few other sites I use regularly that haven't gotten with the program either, so it comes in pretty handy. I also like Google Notebook (which is actually a Google extension for Firefox available at Google Labs). Comes in very handy when researching something so that I don't have to bookmark a bazillion pages. Oh, and I really love the different search engines. They are very handy. There are a couple that I use quite frequently such as the IMDb and Dictionary.com ones. I don't find a really noticeable slow-down with all the added stuff--but then, I don't have quite as many as roos does.

Browser presentation is quite important to me. I prefer not to use a theme and have modified the default one instead. I like my 'most used' bookmarks on a toolbar at the top of the browser. Lesser used bookmarks are put in folders (on the same toolbar) with links inside that. Rarely used bookmarks remain in the 'Bookmarks' folders. In the set-up shown below (link), the Bookmarks Toolbar has been turned off. The bookmarks and folders have been relocated to the Menu Bar. This keeps toolbars to a minimum and leaves more of the screen available for page display. It does mean that everything has to be fitted into the remaining toolbars but this is possible with a bit of planning. The 'File - Edit - View - History - Tools - Help' options are all obtainable via a 'Menu' button placed to the right of the toolbar. The 'Stop' and 'Refresh' buttons have been made into a single button. Both of these customisations were achieved with extensions. The coloured tabs and the rounded corners on the Search/Address fields are the result of using other extensions. Some code has been added to a file called ' userChrome.css' to reduce the height of the toolbars and to increase the toobar text size. The slightly contoured look of the toolbars is achieved by using an external background tile that I made. It all ends up looking like this: http://homepage.ntlworld.com/boots44/tb/toolbar-b.gif

I've been playing around and I have a question, but it will probably be an answer that is right in front of my nose. How do I get my most used bookmarks on the toolbar at the top?

There are two ways it can be done:
* Click on a bookmark and hold the mouse button down. Drag the bookmark to the toolbar.
* Click on: Bookmarks > Organise Bookmarks. Transfer any bookmarks you want to appear on the toolbar into the 'Toolbar Folder'.
If the name of the bookmark is a bit long, right click on it and choose 'Properties'. Change or abbreviate the name to anything you like.

O.k. I just downloaded a few more add-ons.
FotoFox and Kodak Easyshare Gallery Companion-Just because I recently purchased a cheap Kodak that has Easyshare software.
PicLens-I haven`t used the add-on yet but it looks fun.
Foxclocks-You can keep the icon on your browser to easily find out what the time is in a large variety of cities.
FoxSave-What a great add-on. This works like a screen saver in your browser but you can have an infinite number of images come up,chosen from anywhere in your files. This is fantastic!
