Does anyone watch it?

If you do, what do you think of the singers this year?

I think Tarisai and Matt can go to the opera house, with Daniel not far behind and Ben behind him. Natalie just irritates me, and Marty doesn't want to be there. Carl is good, but I can't see most teens/young adults listening to him. Jacob is alright, but most weeks he is a bit boring.

That just my opinions though, I want to hear yours.

I was quite taken in by Mark de Costa, the rugged rock dude.I think Tarasai will go a long way.I do agree about Marty,he always seems half asleep or something.

This may sound like a "dumb" question, but is your Idol produced or "owned " by the same as American Idol? The show seems to be popping up all over the place and I was just curious. Sandy

I'm not sure about that, but I think Australia got the idea from somewhere else.

Slinkycat - Mark was good, but now he's gone I couldn't believe it when they announced it. Marty actually said last night that he didn't want to be on the show anymore, because he doesn't like singing with the band.

Tarisai has a great voice but she can tend to be a bit 'gospel'. Matt is good too. I was dumbfounded when Mark was voted off.

Idol and Big Brother seem to be in a lot of countries now. I wouldn't be surprised if the same company owns them. The Australian version does refer to the winners of American Idol sometimes.

Yes x4 to everything you said.

They threw Jacob off this week, it was him or Carl or Daniel though. I don't trust the Australian Public. Dicko specifically said "don't vote for Marty" and Marty agreed with him, and he still wasn't in the bottom three!

The concept of Australian and American Idol (and any others you can think of) comes from the brain of Simon Cowell. He has also been involved in Britain's Got Talent, of which Australia has also had a series of the same name.

I'm not sure about Big Brother though however I believe all are produced by FreemantleMedia.

Thank you all for your answers to my question! Exit10, I had a feeling Simon Cowell was probably behind them.

I was dumbfounded as well when Mark was voted off. There are so many others with less talent, but the public had spoken and he was gone...Regarding Marty not wanting to be there, why didn't he drop out or something and give someone else a go,his heart isn't in it obviously.

I don't know why Marty doesn't drop out, maybe he wants the TV or whatever they get when they get voted off?

I was stunned to read Mark DaCosta's piece in one of the trashy tabloid mags. The guy stated that he was the best one there, and that people made a mistake to not vote for him, we're all going to end up buying his album and paying for concert tickets, etc etc.

I hate to break it to Mark, but that kind of attitude does not sit well with Australians. I know that you need to be full of self-confidence in order to be successful, but the arrogant diva attitude doesn't sit well with me.

Personally, I don't think much of this year's crop of hopefuls. I think some of the better singers didn't make it through unfortunately.

Having said that - I'm not a fan of Idol. I only watch it because cubby (for some reason) is insistent on watching it this year. *SIGH* I think he's getting senile.....

I didnt like Mark when he was on it, i thought he was a try hard Jet wannabe, and i hate to break it to him, but i will NEVER buy his album or go to a concert, i was one of the few people i know who was cheering when he go out.

I dont really like Tarasai either, she has a good voice, but she is sounds like all the other RnB/Ballad artists on the radio, and i HATE that music.

None of them really took my eye, but i am going for Ben, he has a good voice, and if he wins i wont buy his album because i have a feeling he will sing alot of love song/ballad type things. The other reason i am going for Ben, and this is the main reason, and i know it is pretty sad, but on the first show they performed, Ben was wearing this grey jacket that reminded me a little of the My Chemical Romance Black Parade outfits...

I think Marty had a unique voice, and if he was more into it then he would go far, but in a way i can see where he is coming from, because technically we arent voting on how good he is, we are voting on how good he is at singing someone elses songs, and i know myself that i prefer to play my songs rather then someone elses. Because no matter what song you cover there is always going to be a handful of people who think you ruined the song.

Like when Daniel sang the Kiss song and made it into this dumb ballad, and got a touchdown, i was angry, i thought he ruined a legendary song, and i hated the arrangement.

Matt is by far my favourite. He has an excellent voice, he can sing almost anything, and he is...pretty good looking...ok, I give up, he is very good looking.

He's pretty mature for his age though (16)

I loved it when he sang the blower's daughter, that was beautiful.

You are lucky you missed Daniel singing Kiss, he KILLED the song, and got a touchdown for it, what is up with that?

I actually didn't mind the arrangement *ducks flying fruit*

The original is better, but he still sang it pretty well.

I was made for loving you - as a ballad?

It just goes to show what kind of drivel scores a Touchdown on that rotten show.

I hate it - hate the show, hate the contestants, hate the judges, hate the whole concept. It's aimed at 12 year olds with mobile phones who spend their pocket money voting for some twit who can't sing.

The only true thing that's been said on that show is when Dicko canned Holly (the first contestant to leave) for choosing a Gossip song. When he said that the show was aimed at musical tourists he wasn't kidding. If it ain't middle of the road (mor), then it's not going to make it on Aussie Idol. The judges encourage the singers to butcher classic songs - and their song choices are rubbish for the most part, or their arrangement is. If Crowded House meant their songs to be done reggae-style, Paul Hester would have played steel drums, Neil Finn would have grown dreds, and they'd have smoked more dope.

There's no point killing a song for the sake of it. It's just cruel.

They can sing though. It's just very...commercialised.

I watch it for the singing, because I like to hear the voices, and for the singing and performing tips that they get.

I agree with lioness,I enjoy listening to different voices and for the entertainment value. But I just hate it when they destroy great songs (and get praise from the judges in some cases)I also agree about the Crowded House song that Marty did. When I heard he was singing Crowded House I thought "wow, great" but was disappointed with the lame reggae version. It is very commercial and the network/creators make a lot of money from it.

I missed some of the last few weeks but was so surprised to see marty was still there.
I can't stand him or daniel but don't mind the rest.
I just want to get marty and give his hair a good brush and with daniel.. the hair, the voice, the scarves, the unshaved look, skinny jeans - it's just so try hard and annoying.

I like tarasi's voice but the judges keep asking her to act herself on stage. she must be quite different behind the scenes and it would be good to see some of that.

i really like carl and the dark-haired girl from melb, can't remember her name lol.

What i find annoying is the judges completely contradictory comments to the singers. they tell carl that he's a 'one hit wonder' cos his sticks with swing but then tells the melb girl she's got no direction because she hasn't defined a style for herself???

i think you saw the exasperation for hte contestants after the show... the look of "what the ef?".

it's not my favourite show, and i don't really like the concept but it's easy to watch with a lazy dinner on sunday nights. plus watching the judges argue is half the fun.

You hit the nail right on the head there.:D
i can't understand why they keep thanking the judges when they are pulling them to shreds.

I dont hate it, i just dont like the way the public votes, i mean seriously, i think Ben was the best om the show, he should still be there, Carl and Marty should both have gone before Ben at least.

I dont vote, never will, but that is mainly because i think it is fixed anyway, i think they have a winner picked out before they even get to the Final 12.

The show just bugs me, yeah they have good voices. But we dont really know what they are going to be like as artists, i mean, usually the winner goes nowhere anyway.

Yeah. Marty was in the bottom 3, a few weeks ago, Kyle told people (or was it Dicko) NOT to vote for Marty, so what did they do?

Ben was my favourite by far. Matt is good, but he is like this years Dean. People constantly say "you just like him because he looks good, he can't actually sing"
He can sing! And looking good isn't what I judge people on. Other teenage girls might, but I don't.
