Are you lazy? Do you find that having to hold a book so you can read it exhausting? I know, I know..it can really be a pain when you're trying to search through the Whitman's Sampler for a milk chocolate butter cream..,I HATE how they try to trick you with those damn semi-sweet chocolate butter creams...I HATE them! ANYWAY......

Give your arm a rest. Bring on the butter creams. I've got a solution for you. Don't go to the main stacks that contain those heavy, inconvenient books. Head srtaight for the audio departmet. Get that book on tape. You'll need a cassette player, and it will involve your depression of the 'ON' button but, hey...then you're home free. Why, you can even enjoy a book while driving!

Since you're probably a novice in this area, I'll get you started with 'Rich's Sure-Fire Audio Hits':

"All Over But the Shouting" (author and reader: Rick Bragg) - a poignant and beautiful young man's tribute to his mother

"No Ordinary Time" - a fascinating look at Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt...their personal and private lives

"Lincoln-A Biography" (read by Frank Langella) - a glimpse of Lincoln the man, his marriage, his morals and ethics. A masterpiece!

More examples later......

I think that the problem with audio books is that the speaker subtly interprets the story in their own way which might be diferent than you would when reading the printed version.

I supose that's true...I like the audio books read by the author, sort of like going to the horse's mouth for exactly how he/she wanted the work interpreted. I enjoy hearing the emotion, the passion, the nuances that make the work come alive. Then I like to get the printed version and see how my interpretation differs from/complements the author's.
