Oddly enough, BoyScout, I just finished
The Return of The King, part three of the 'Lord of the Rings' trilogy, a couple of nights ago. (The second book you cannot remember is titled
The Two Towers)
You HAVE read The Hobbit haven't you? A wonderful book, and it will help provide some vital background information on questions you may have once you get deeper into the tale. I would almost argue that it should be read BEFORE attempting 'The Lord of the Rings.'
I'm curious where you are in the story... what's happening where you are in the book? (This last reading was the fourth go around for me... I know it like the back of my hand. Hubby thinks I'm weird reading books about hobbits, elves, wizards and the like.)
If you have any questions or reach a stumbling block of some sort as you travel along, feel free to PM me. You are quite right... it's not what anyone would ever classify as 'children's lit,' altho the story did grow out of the bedtime tales Tolkien told his children.
I applaud you on this worthwhile endevor. You will really enjoy the books!
Keep me informed how the story is going for you!
Valerie
