I enjoy this subgenre! My favorite from when I was younger is Gary Paulsen's Hatchet, which is about a teenager who survives in the wilderness of Canada with only a hatchet and his wits.

A nonfiction book aimed at adults is Endurance by Alfred Lansing, which is about Earnest Shackleton's attempted trip to the South pole. The ship became ice bound and began to crack and sink, and the men trekked by foot and small boat to safety over many months. Despite horrific conditions, not a single man was lost.

Any others anyone?

Have you read the sequels to Hatchet? (Brian's Winter, The River, and Brian's Return) I read the first two, but I can't find the latter anywhere.

Hi ReanaZ,
I've read The River, but haven't ever seen those other two. I remember it as being pretty good, but still just a sequel--not as good as the first. I will keep an eye out for those, thanks!
