"One" - U2

Is it getting better
Or do you feel the same
Will it make it easier on you now
That you got someone to blame

You say
One love
One life
When it's one need
In the night
It's one love
We get to share it
It leaves you baby
If you don't care for it

Did I disappoint you?
Or leave a bad taste in your mouth?
You act like you never had love
And you want me to go without

Well it's too late
Tonight
To drag the past out
into the light
We're one
But we're not the same
We get to carry each other
Carry each other
One

Have you come here for forgiveness
Have you come to raise the dead
Have you come to play Jesus
To the lepers in your head
Did I ask you too much
More than a lot
You gave me nothing
Now it's all I got
We're one
But we're not the same
Well, we hurt each other
Then we'll do it again

You say
Love is a temple
Love a higher law
Love is a temple
Love the higher law
You ask me to enter
But then you make me crawl
And I can't be holding on
To what you got
When all you got is hurt

One love
One blood
One life
You got to do what you should

One life
With each other
Sisters
Brothers

One life
But we're not the same
We got to carry each other
Carry each other

Oh No Not You Again by Australian Crawl.

LET ME TELL YOU BOUT TWO YOUNG LOVERS THAT LIVED ON THE COAST
SHE WAS SUCH A PRETTY THING AND MAN WHAT A HOST
COME EVENING TIME SETS THE TABLE FOR FOUR

SOME FRIENDS ARE COMIN' ROUND TONIGHT
HE'S OUT ON THE TOWN, HE'S TRYING TO SCORE
WOKE UP EARLY THIS MORNIN' SOMETHING'S ON HIS MIND

CURSIN' THE NIGHT BEFORE, BREAKFAST AT NINE
SHE FELT HIM RESTLESS OH ALL THE NIGHT
SHE SENSES SOMETHING'S WRONG WITH HIM
SHE DON'T WANT TO PRY, SHE JUST WANTS TO KNOW WHY

CHORUS

OH, OH, OH, OH - OH NO NOT YOU AGAIN
DON'T OWN NO SWIMMIN' POOL NOT EVEN A COLOUR TV
HE WORK AWFUL HARD SOME DAYS AND SHE LETS HIM BE
THINGS AIN'T LOOKING FOOD FOR THEM NO LOVE NO MORE
SOME FRIENDS ARE COMIN' ROUND TONIGHT
HE'S OUT ON THE TOWN, KNOCKIN' ON THE WRONG DOORS

I love the song but not the memories it always brings.

Kelly Clarkson - Sober
And I don't know
This could break my heart or save me
Nothing's real
Until you let go completely
So here I go with all my thoughts I've been saving
So here I go with all my fears weighing on me

Three months and I'm still sober
Picked all my weeds but kept the flowers
But I know it's never really over

And I don't know
I could crash and burn but maybe
At the end of this road I might catch a glimpse of me
So I won't worry about my timing, I want to get it right
No comparing, second guessing, no not this time

Three months and I'm still breathing
Been a long road since those hands I left my tears in but I know
It's never really over, no

Wake up

Three months and I'm still standing here
Three months and I'm getting better yeah
Three months and I still am

Three months and it's still harder now
Three months I've been living here without you now
Three months yeah, three months

Three months and I'm still breathing
Three months and I still remember it
Three months and I wake up

Three months and I'm still sober
Picked all my weeds but kept the flowers

Empty Chairs by Don McLean. It's off the American Pie album. The melody, his voice, the lyrics... they're exactly as haunting and hunted and hungry and disbelieving as the feeling of being left really is.

Two other songs from the same album, Till Tomorrow and Crossroads, which is, in my opinion, one of the best songs Don McLean ever wrote.

I'm going to throw in Janis Ian as well, several songs, all from Between the Lines, which I was basically raised on. I was lulled to sleep in the crib by this album, and it seems I've just always known the words to every song, but never remember learning them.

Tea and Sympathy, which is really pretty heartbreaking.
Watercolors, which is at once pleading and spiteful and so much like a woman (speaking as one) when hurt that I can't help but identify with it.
From Me to You, which I sang once to a boy I loved, though not as a breakup song. It was one eventually, though, and every time I hear it, I can't help but think of him and wonder whether he wound up happy or in jail, as those were his two options, I think.

Separate Lives - Phil Collins.

Just reading the lyrics through again now without hearing it has made me fill up.

You called me from the room in your hotel
All full of romance for someone that you'd met
And telling me how sorry you were, leaving so soon
And that you miss me sometimes, when you're alone
Do I feel lonely too?

You have no right to ask me how I feel
You have no right to speak to me so kind
We can't go on, holding on to time
So now we're living separate lives

Well I have learned to let you go
And if you lost your love for me, you never let it show, oh no
There was no way to compromise
So now we're living - now we're living - separate lives

Ooh, it's so difficult, love leads to isolation
So you build that wall - you build that wall
Yes you build that wall - oh yes, you build that wall
And you make it stronger - no

You have no right to ask me how I feel - oh no
You have no right to speak to me so kind
Some day I might - I just might - find myself looking in your eyes
But for now, we'll go on living separate lives
Yes for now, we'll go on living separate lives
Separate lives

Whenever Christmas comes around, I hear "Christmas Shoes". That is one of the saddest songs ever.

And I always cry when I hear "Dance with my Father" by Luther Vandross.

Martina McBride: Concrete Angel
She walks to school with the lunch she packed
Nobody knows what she's holdin' back
Wearin' the same dress she wore yesterday
She hides the bruises with linen and lace

The teacher wonders but she doesn't ask
It's hard to see the pain behind the mask
Bearing the burden of a secret storm
Sometimes she wishes she was never born

Through the wind and the rain
She stands hard as a stone
In a world that she can't rise above
But her dreams give her wings
And she flies to a place where she's loved
Concrete angel

Somebody cries in the middle of the night
The neighbors hear, but they turn out the lights
A fragile soul caught in the hands of fate
When morning comes it'll be too late

[Repeat Chorus]

A statue stands in a shaded place
An angel girl with an upturned face
A name is written on a polished rock
A broken heart that the world forgot

[Repeat Chorus]

Kelly Rowland: Stole

Superchick: Courage:Courage lyrics
I told another lie today
And i got through this day
No one saw through my games
I know the write words to say
Like "i don't feel well," "i ate before i came"
Then someone tells me how good i look
And for a moment, for a moment i am happy
But when i'm alone, no one hears me cry

I need you to know
I'm not through the night
Somedays i'm still fighting to walk towards the light
I need you to know
That we'll be ok
Together we can make it through another day (chorus)

I don't know the first time i felt unbeautiful
The day i chose not to eat
What i do know is how i've changed my life forever
I know i should know better
There are days when i'm ok
And for a moment, for a moment i find hope
But there are days when i'm not ok
And i need your help
So i'm letting go

(Repeat Chorus)

You should know you're not on your own
These secrets are walls that keep us alone
I don't know when but i know now
Together we'll make it through somehow
(together we'll make it through somehow)

(Repeat Chorus)
