This is one of my Japanese acers, in Autumn (Fall) foliage colours, almost glowing in the bright afternoon sunshine today.

Speaking of R2D2, here's a U.S. Post Office Mail Box located in Homestead PA. Hundreds of these R2D2 mailboxes have replaced the ordinary ones in honor of the 30th anniversary of Star Wars.

P.S. - The humans are my son Eric and husband Clint who are both fans of the genre.

I don't know how much story most people want with some photos, so I'll post it here and add the story after for anyone with the patience

Some of my life story in this photo, although admittedly I usually stopped just short of this sign as my best friend's house was just before you got there, and I visited from when I met him at school in 1972 until he emigrated 30 years later. I'm not sure why it's on a slant as the houses show I took it straight, but it looks like the one that was always there. So many memories of the place and three generations (parents, child and grandchildren) lived in the huge house together at some times. The second garage (I said it was huge) became a pool room- simply after playing mini-snooker for some time I told his father you could buy a pool table for a few hundred pounds. The next week it was there, and some years later a new room was created for it. I played a few hours of Scrabble a week, boosting my average score by 50 or more, drove across half the country when he was working in a van, took many of my girlfriends there and even stayed there for two weeks to look after the cats.

They rented it for some years but sold it when they saw the mess it was left in, and now there is no connection with the country at all. Look after your friendships while they're here, you never know when something will stop it in its tracks...

Here are a few prawns from the fish stalls by the ferry pier:
and have a guess what these are!
The prize for guessing the one in the big picture is, you get three for supper!

I don't know what they are, but they surely are weird looking things! I'm intrigued! I hope someone guesses what they are or that Ren tells us soon!

Well, Ren, if I said what I think they look like...

Here's another pic from one of my wanders by the river. There's been a lot of work going on around the small dam that is just out of shot on the left for several months. I'm told they're building a bridge.

They're geoducks, I think. A kind of clam. Pronounced gooey ducks.

At the top of the hill when I went for a walk and took photos of sheep and cows. This is the Southland Plains. My place is in the small group of houses you can just see on the left of the picture

And a link to a bigger picture. I took four photos and joined them together. It was my first time trying to do this so please ignore the blurry bits. i will have to go back on a clearer day as you can't see Stewart Island and the other hills that are usally in the background

Well done, DD, you did it! Welcome to the group.

Being only about 1.5 hours from Hollywood, it's not too strange to have this film site in our area. In case you can't read it, it says, "Tropico, Gold Mine and Ghost Town, Film Site."

For a closer look:
Ghost Town and Gold Mine

How many "B" westerns do you suppose were filmed here?

Yes, well done, Dalton! They are really cute! Welcome!
Here is something else yummy (not) from the fish market by the ferry:
The prize , again, is two for your tea...
or a few eels?

They say the locals here will eat anything that has the sun on its back..
