LOL @ Lynn!! I'm afraid the third world is in a bit of trouble if they're relying on my word skills.

What a great idea! I've donated over 1000 grains - and yes, even without a dictionary! I wonder how they get the rice to the people?

Hi Jane, well done! I looked over at the site to find the answer to how the people get the rice. The FAQ's are quite interesting(at the top of the first page you come to) It says: Who distributes the donated rice? The rice is distributed by the United Nations World Food Program (WFP). The World Food Program is the world’s largest food aid agency, working with over 1,000 other organizations in over 75 countries. In addition to providing food, the World Food Program helps hungry people to become self-reliant so that they escape hunger for good. Wherever possible, the World Food Program buys food locally to support local farmers and the local economy. We encourage you to visit the United Nations World Food Program to learn more about their successful approach to ending hunger.

It just gives you the correct answer when you err, and then the next word it gives is easier. I tell you, it make me dizzy after a while. But a great idea I think.

That's a fantastic site! Thank you for sharing it Ren. Now I'm hooked on building my vocabulary - made it up to 1400 grains by now . I will keep on playing. Hope I won't end up starving them even more .

I managed to donate 5000 at one point and reached the 50 level for about two seconds. It's great fun.

I love it! I got up to 2000 grains, and added it to my favs, so I can do it again! It is also good practice for Word Whiz! I'd like to know how many grains in a cup, for instance. Just to have an idea how much "2000 grains" actually is...

I spent about half an hour playing, and managed to donate 4,000 grains.
Like veronikkamarrz, I was wondering how far that would go. Different websites give different weights for a grain of rice, but they mostly seem to favour 10 or 20 milligrams. So 4,000 grains would weigh 40 to 80 grams or about 1˝ to 3 ounces of raw rice (about a quarter to half a pound when it's cooked).

I've added the link to my home page links so whenever I log on I automatically have the page open, I've donated over 5500 grains since yesterday!

This would be excellent for SAT prep and also, as a French tutor I have to say that French would be the best language to prepare for that game. With some Greek root study, you would be able to score very well on it with a few years of French under your belt.

That's for sure Ren! Helps me a lot in the word wizard, and with scientific terminology in general. That's the reason med students used to have to learn it, makes it much easier to understand the terminology- that and Greek.

For those with facebook, look for the 'click a day for hunger' application. It's bright orange and also has click options for other worthy causes, like Care 2. Worth doing both, takes less than a minute and you can recruit other friends on facebook. I'm still clicking for the rice! Haven't managed to get above 50 yet!

Since there are people we need to think of this Christmas, who need food, I am bringing up this thread in the hopes that you will give a few clicks over the holiday. I would like to also include the donation sites at Care2 , as I usually bring them to your attention at this time of year. Please help by visiting these
