(Nov. 19) - Three boys ages 8 and 9 were being held Monday in a detention center on charges of kidnapping and raping an 11-year-old girl in the woods near a suburban apartment complex, officials said. The alleged attack happened Thursday and the girl's mother reported it to authorities Sunday, Acworth police Capt. Wayne Dennard said. "The juvenile victim stated that an 8-year-old boy and two 9-year-old boys that she had been playing with earlier pulled her into a wooded area, where one of the boys raped her," Dennard said. The three boys were charged with rape, kidnapping, false imprisonment and sexual assault, Dennard told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Their names were being withheld because of their age. Prosecutors have not decided whether to try the suspects as adults. "That decision hasn't been made," said Kathy Watkins, a spokeswoman for the Cobb County District Attorney's office. She had no further comment. Calls to the Acworth Police Department were not returned Monday morning. Acworth is 30 miles northwest of Atlanta in the city's fast-growing outer suburbs. Worse yet, is that those 8 and 9 year old boys know what it means to force a girl to have sex! Have to wonder about their home life and the types of friends they have. Now the justice system is not sure if they want to try those boys as adults...they are only 8 and 9 years old! This one says Quote: The father of one of the suspects told WSB-TV Channel 2 Action News his son denies any rape happened. "Word had got back to her parents what she did and she changed her story around and said she was raped," said Brandon LeBlanc. "That's when they took her to the hospital and get rape kit and that's why they interrogating all these boys on these charges." It's still unbelievable. I know "children" are reaching puberty younger and younger, but usually girls get there before boys. But 8 and 9? There are many things that are called rape that aren't intercourse, per se. Not to call any particular degree of any 'assault' better or worse than another, mind you. On the other hand, perhaps she was really traumatized and felt violated even though the full act never happened. Two boys can overpower a girl of comparable age, she could have been absolutely terrified. I was jumped by a bigger boy when I was ten.. not quite as far as a sexual attack but I'll never forget it even though just a few scrapes.
