I have just got a laptop computer and am busy setting up. There is a useful notification service from Toshiba which lets me know of the latest drivers etc for my computer. Most of these are zipped downloads and they suggest installing Winzip. My last computer had Winzip but I never really used it tidily or with total comprehension. Could someone tell me the best way to cope with zipped files and to tidy up after installation? Just a step by step way of doing it which works best for you. Many thanks

I don't use Winzip but use Winrar instead. I think most programs would work in about the same way though. Right-clicking on a zipped file will give option to unzip files to a folder of the same name. Choose this option. The file will unzip and a new un-zipped folder containing the files will appear. Work with these as necessary.

There would be no need to keep both the zipped folder/files and the un-zipped ones. One or the other can be deleted (the zipped files will take up less disk space).

The Windows OS provides a zip/un-zip function. Before installing Winzip (or other utility), right-click on a zipped folder and look at the options offered. Also, right-click on an unzipped file to see if the option is there to zip it up. There is in XP and I'd think it might be an option in Vista too. This might be OK for you.

If Winzip has been installed already, it might have taken over this function and Windows' own utility may not be available.
