I can't see a thread on Christmas songs, forgive me if I missed it.
My favourite song, corny and hackneyed though it is, is Jonah Lewie's "Stop the Cavalry."
Here
My favourite Carol is 'Joy to the World'. You are allowed only one song and one carol in this thread. OK?

Good thread, Ren.

My favorite song is "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas", and my favorite carol is "O Come, O Come, Emmanuel", especially a cappella.

I'm rather fond of "O Tannenbaum." The tune has been used for all kinds of other songs - so if I'm in a "Bah! Humbug!" mood when I hear it, I can sing a rude parody of "The Red Flag."

Recently I've come to love 2000 Miles by The Pretenders. I can definitely relate to the message of that song these days.

More traditionally speaking, I've always loved Greensleeves.

I like I Believe in Father Christmas by Greg Lake, and my favourite carol is Little Donkey sung by little children

Isn't it "odd" how many Christmas songs are downright depressing and gloomy when you actually "analyse" the words..

Yes . Now that you mention it, they are (a lot of them, anyway) depressing as heck!

This one's short on cheeriness, too, I reckon ... but I always loved hearing it. Especially *Judy's version...*

*Note: How unsettling, in an anti-holiday sort of way, too, I might add: the contributor of that clip's screen name is 'ShotMyEyeOut'?! Yikes ...

I'm with ClaraSue - definitely "O Holy Night".

I really like Silver Bells, Angels Have We Heard On High, White Christmas, and Silent Night.

I like most o them, but those are my favourites.

I also tend to lean towards the slower, more carolly ones. Most boppier songs are less about the religious aspect of Christmas, and though I'm not religious, I don't think it should be left out. If it wasn't for the religious part, there wouldn't be Christmas!

Naw, Gatsby, that's VERY holiday - it's from "A Christmas Story", where the boy wants a Red Rider BB gun for Christmas and everyone keeps telling him no, because "he'll shoot his eye out!"

Whoops! I didn't make that connection at all, djsgal. Makes perfect sense now!
