Welcome to the January photo thread. The December thread will be left open for a while to allow for World time zones. It will close it once it is January 1st for everyone. Post in either thread (but not both) until then.

If anyone needs information on how to post photos, it can be found in the 'Photo posting guide' located at the top of the forum.

HAPPY NEW YEAR! to everybody

Here is the Orchid stall at last weeks Christmas flower market. ( You can always tell I am running out of pictures when I post orchids.I don't like them really.)

The park across the street from my house - you can see my shadow from the sun behind me.

The fence behind the trees is the chain link around the public tennis courts. It's so filled in with snow that it looks like a white board fence! I've never seen snow stay up like this batch has - usually we have a wind to blow it all off after a day or so, but it's been like this here for well over a week now.

Oh agony, it looks like a picture and I can't believe the fence, it looks like a wall. Very pretty. Ren I love the orchids!

This is what I like to call the secret garden in Hampstead. I was taken here by someone who lived over the road some years ago and returned ever since.

We celebrated New Year's Eve, and of course this morning till around 3.00 a.m, at my daughter's house. The party theme was masks, and this is some of the ladies. My daughter is wearing the black mask, and my wife is on the right wearing the multi feathered mask - which was actually someone else's but by the early hours there were some swaps going on

Our little Christmas "tree", which is in fact five Silver Fir branches sticked into a flowerpot .

I like your "tree", Denni

Katt's Christmas present of cat grass had sprouted enough to present it to him today. He thought it very tasty!

We're off to a great start for the new year with the terrific photos so far!

Here are our 4 kids celebrating New Year's Eve last night. Three of 4 managed to make it all the way to midnight.

That Chinese suit is adorable!

Victoria (in red hat) crashed on the couch about 11 pm. Our youngest (Kate, in purple hat) was so excited because she was able to stay awake for the first time this year!

Sunny but freezing today. Here's a little back double in Hampstead Garden Suburb you wouldn't see unless you made a special journey.

I am liking this grandmother lark; no pain, no sleepless nights, a beautiful baby, cards of congratulations and now these beautiful roses given to me by a neighbour.

Bravo, Sue - hoping you'll be posting some photos of the little man soon?

Digging back into photos from this past summer, here's a shot of some surf on the Big Island of Hawaii.

I love your kids' hats djsgal, they'd have gone well with the masks worn by my grand-daughters and their friends on New Year's Eve

I thought it would be easy to do a photo a day---but it isn't is it?

Life keeps getting in the way!

This is a pup who is staying for nearly 3 weeks, she will be very different when her owners come back for her. She is a sweetheart, I really like her.

Name of Ronnie

lynn

This is the view from a friend's flat in Happy Valley, overlooking the racecourse. On race nights you can place your bets by phone or email and watch the races for free!
If you open the window you can hear the commentator too.

It snowed all day New Year's Day, as you can see from this photo. It was still coming down when I took it yesterday afternoon. If I tell you that the railing of my deck and the little table were completely clear of snow the night before, you'll have an idea how much fell! Today was a beautiful, sunny, crisp winter day - and I didn't take a picture worth posting...

..Must comment on the last 3 photos...

Lynn, Ronnie is so cute. What breed, some kind of shepherd?

Ren, is that horse, dog, or vehicle racing?

Liz, that snow is amazing. Must be at least a foot that fell! How much snow would you say that you get on average per year?

Happy Valley is one of the most famous Racecourses in the world. Here is a bit about it: The Heart of Hong Kong
As it says
The city of Hong Kong grew up around the racecourse.

The race course is astounding! It'd be nice to see it in person.

A little more of my railway interest, this is the main line from West Hampstead heading north to Cricklewood and Scotland if you keep going all day. Change at Bedford.

According to the local paper, around eight inches accumulated on Tuesday. The city's website says the mean annual snowfall is 151 cm (59.5 inches). Mind you, this time last year we had no snow at all - winter waited until February back then.

Today's project was assembling the storage shelves I got for Christmas.

Only took about ten minutes (stopping to take photos not included). Here's the finished product .
