Today it is windy - very windy - and just a bit cooler. This squirrel thought to take advantage of my neighbour's bird feeder having been toppled by the wind.

Your home help is becoming a real star here Ren, I feel like I almost know her!

This shot more or less tells you exactly what it is. I was very pleased with the symmetry when it was blown up.

This is the ferry I posted a picture from on Tuesday. It was taken yesterday through glass as it was too windy to go onto the balcony. When the tide is right out it barely leaves more than a large puddle mid-river, so you have to walk on a plank from the jetty. It is quite amusing watching people nearly fall in the water as they try and balance with all their shopping. OK, so my sense of humour is a bit weird

Here's a crowd of people who just crossed Cricklewood Broadway to go into the huge pub I forget the name of.

Sweet kitties, Kapuskasing!

Here's a photo of some glass ornaments that my mother-in-law made - one for each of our 4 kids. They came just a couple of days ago, so we'll pack them away for next Christmas.

This one is especially for Satguru. Lina and her friend Susan from upstairs, at the New Year's BBQ. The weather was a little chilly, so they put on all the warm clothes they have.

Since Satguru posted such a civilised looking pub, I shall offer a garish dive for a little contrast. It's in Warrington, PA.
I pass it frequently, but have never frequented it.

The river was quite a bit higher today than I have seen it in awhile, probably because of all that snow that melted.

Spanishliz you have no snow! It has been fairly warm all across Canada hasn't it?

Here is a photo of my poor roses covered in snow.

The one on the right is quite tall so you can see that the rose hips are still there. But the one to the left is almost buried. Hard to believe that come spring they'll come back as good as new.

So, last week on the work photos, you saw my kitchen at work all clean and empty. Now here it is, with lunch ready to go out, and this afternoon's cookies on the plates. Can't show the big pot of chicken broth I also made this morning, no room.

Had to take the link to the other angle off, as I couldn't figure out how to show it without showing the whole photobucket page.

Not only have you no snow, liz, you've got running water! I haven't seen any of that for months. It's cold where we are, even though last weekend we went above freezing for a day.

Just so you don't get too jealous out there in the snowy west of Canada, this is what my deck looked like at two o'clock this morning.

It was hail, though, not snow and was gone by the time I got up. Still, it's a reminder that winter isn't over yet, not by miles.

It would be here - hail is strictly a hot weather phenomena in this part of the world.

I think I'd like a few more pubs looking like that Kap, a bit more artistic than our standard versions. The one I took is a lot bigger than normal, that showed about a quarter of the whole building and I've never been in it either.

Here is a very unusual house I found in Stanmore today and again couldn't get it all quite in the shot.

Satguru,

I'd guess there are some very "artistic" shows in that place!

This one is a few days overdue, but I felt like posting something old today. It is a drawing by my German great-great-great grandfather, who was a lithographer in London and various other European cities before he came to the USA in 1850, where he was one of the pioneers of chromolithography (gorgeous color printing) in this country. He died in Philadelphia in 1908.

Come up old boys! Happy New Year!

(for FT I'll add: and old girls)

The small photo seems to have turned into blurry mush, so here's the larger image: NewYear1903

It's beautiful! Especially with the history.
Can you explain the "scalps taken" at the bottom?

Here is Rosie , looking very inscrutibly Chinese. She is "making beautiful eyes" so we will feed her.

Probably getting tired of snow pictures from me, but I just love how beautiful it is. Heavy ice fog the other night, which leads to scenes like this when the sky clears. This is the park across from my house.

This is one of the many ponds on Stanmore Common.
