I've had a need for some reason lately to relive the adventures I enjoyed so much as a child. Right now I'm half way through "Moby Dick" by Herman Mellville. My God what a great book. I think everyone should do a favor to themselves and relive some of the old classics that you may have forgotten to one extent or another. I recently reread "Huckleberry Finn" by Mark Twain, and "Great Expectations" by Charles Dickens. After I finish Moby Dick, I've got "War and Peace" sitting patiently by my bedside awaiting review.

I am reading Begonias for Miss Applebaumn, by Paul Zindel, about two New York teens who try to spend as much time as possible with their retired science teacher when she is diagnosed with terminal cancer. I'm also reading Roll of Thunder Hear My Cry, about an African-American family in 1930s Mississippi wanting equal rights.

I have also read Barbara Kingsolver's "The Poisonwood Bible" and found it a challenging but rewarding read. I believe I will discover fresh nuances in characters and will benefit more from what she is saying (there are always several layers of meaning in the stories she tells) when read both it and "Prodigal Summer"b for a second time. She has such a beautiful and lyrical way of writing that keeps drawing me back to her.
Right now I am reading "The Blue Nowhere" by Jeffery Deaver, absolutely the best suspense writer I have read. His Lincoln Rhyme series is tops on my list. One of these, "The Bone Collector", starring Denzel Washington, came out as a movie last year. I have yet to see it, though.
In the wisecracking-detective-with-a-heart-of-gold-and-a-mysterious-partner catagory, I highly recommend the Elvis Cole series by Robert Crais. An excellent writer!

I just read She Said Yes: The Unlikely Martyrdom of Cassie Bernall about a girl who was shot at Columbine after she said she believed in God. Now I'm reading a book about Arctic Animals (weird, right?) and I'm going to start reading I Know What You Did Last Summer.

I am currently reading 2 books. I always read one non fiction and one fiction. The non fiction one is "Hot House - Life Inside Leavenworth Prison" It's pretty interesting! The other one is "Secrets Of The Morning" by VC Andrews. I like to read the whole series of her books at one time. This one is in the "Cutler" series.

Samantha, I really enjoyed VC Andrews's Flowers In The Attic. I can really relate to rereading books you read as a child. I still love reading books like The Wind in the Willows, A Christmas Carol, Dracula--and I loved Moby Dick--"Call me Ishmael"--the coolest way to start a story possible. I am having to return Stephen Hawking's The Universe In A Nutshell tomorrow, but boy, I hate to. There's a Huge reserve list on it, so I was lucky to get it at all. I'm reading a Lois Duncan book--just for the pleasure of it--since her books are so highly thought of here, I Know What You Did Last Summer-- never saw the movie, but I really am enjoying the book. And Templar...with all due respect, my friend, are you saying Hawking writes Dull books????? ![[Smile]](images/icons/smile.gif) I'm grinning here. I don't know why, but I Love his books for the mass audience--the techincal ones are Way Over my head!!!!! [ 05-09-2002, 07:54 AM: Message edited by: LindaC007 ]

Linda C007, I DID see the movie "Flowers In The Attic"! It was one of the few movies that ran close to the story line of the book! Normally they cut out SO much. One ot the BEST non-fiction books I ever read was "Not Without My Daughter" by Betty Mamoody (not sure if I spelled that right), when I saw the movie, it was only about 25% of the book!

I am currently reading Cloudstreet by Tim Winton - it's a cute book about two underprivileged families living together in Sydney in the 1940s.
I haven't read Acid House but I watched the video, it was very funny.

I'm in the middle of Arrow's Flight, the second in the Herald's Challenge trilogy in the Valemar series by Mercedes Lacky. From what I can tell, this is the neverending series..i've read at least 5 trilogies already, and am still finding new books that go with them... Quid

I just finished reading a autobiography of Helen Keller, very interesting. I also read Ben and Me: The Newly Discovered Life of Benjamin Franklin As told by his good mouse Amos, by Robert Lawson. My newest book is The Fire, by Caroline B. Cooney, about a teen who lives at a sea side house while she goes to school and she suspects that the family she is living with is trying to kill her.

Well our English class finished the book 'One flew over the Cuckoo's Nest' and we also recently finished the play, "Twelfth Night." Our class is currently working on "The adventures of Huck Finn."

The Hearing by John Lescroart, pinched it from a bag of book my boss put out for charity.
Must get stuck into that pile of books I bought in Atlanta on the civil rights movement, I bought them as a gift for my daughter but would like to read them myself before she takes them to England with her. [ 05-09-2002, 03:10 AM: Message edited by: sue943 ]

I read this book a long time ago. But I thought it would be fun to see if anyone recognizes it. ok Who's the Author? Whats the name of the book?
People of Earth, your attention please. This is Prostetnic Vogon Jeltz of the Galactic Hyperspace Planning Council. Plans for Development of the outlying regions of the galaxy requires the building of a hyperspatial express route through your star system, and regrettably your planet is scheduled for demolition. The process will take slightly less than two of your earth minutes. Thank you
------ Go on you book lovers give me the answers?

After all the waiting how are you finding Shelters of Stone? Is it as good as you had hoped? I haven't bought my copy yet but hope to soon.
