the first question is this;

Tell me what direction it goes down in the northern hemisphere and I'll go have a look - but I wouldn't be surprised if it's a myth

Don't ask me, Copago. I'm just lucky that the water stll goes down the drain at all . Like I pay attention to which way it swirls to get there?

But I reckon it might be interesting to know these things. Just in case somebody ever asks...

Heck ... I don't know. The stupid thing flushes, so as far as I've noticed it goes down (and I'm jazzed like crazy about that, too ). Thank heavens. But let me go have a look...

Back in a mo'...

OK. Toilet goes down clockwise. Now, if the drain in the sink doesn't go down the same way, I think we'll have to consult an expert on these matters...
(ARE there experts, I wonder?)

hehe

Gats, we've done the research and have collaborated our results. I think it's fair to say the WE are the experts.

Ha! You guys are so funny

I've check with some additional experts and they say ---

Snopes

and

Discovery

So, no, it's all your imagination! I've just been picturing you two in my mind, going and flushing your toilets... and then watching them drain... Of course I've checked mine!

Oh jeez Copago -- we are turning into a bathroom obsessed society! I hadn't thought of that toilet paper thread -- and what about the embroidered paper thread? And then there was the bathroom I redecorated. What next!

Has anyone seen the wonderful clip of the cat that keeps flushing and watching the water swirl? I must admit I did go and look...anti clockwise.

So when I go check mine, being it's an RV toilet, it doesn't swirl like everybody elses. It just.....drops.

I have to revisit this topic ... just for a moment. Hmmm. It was 2:30AM (after 1.5 glasses of wine, too, let me confess ) when I made my initial "toilet swirl" report. Upon just revisiting the research site, and it being a reasonable (and entirely sober) hour of the day ... it would seem my earlier observation was faulty. The water now spins counter-clockwise.

Hypothesis as to why this happened pending. My first thought is that, overnight, I flopped into a different hemisphere . Or that that was some mighty funny wine the other night...

I'd go with the mighty funny wine Gats.....

So now in a couple different threads we've covered toilets, toilet paper, and knickers. What next? (And today, I had to unstop a toilet! Luckily a plunger was at hand...)

Mine goes counterclockwise, but someone I know in Oklahoma (about 85 miles away) has theirs go clockwise, so there's no merit in it.

(It may be nearly 2am here...but no wine or anything of the sort)

Ah, Sue, I do believe that was me! Please don't give up hope yet. I have managed to get pneumonia twice, before Thanksgiving and then again right after Christmas. Had all I could do just to get through the holidays and enjoy them. I was being sort of silly when I said I would do it, but now I feel the challenge has been thrown back out. Be patient with me, as my fingers overrode my thinking on that one, but I do what I say and it WILL get done! Sandy

Stick to the topic please .

Mine goes clockwise. It did so in all 10 experimental flushes - morning, noon, afternoon, evening or late at night.

I hope this can be of help to the original poster's avid interest in the problem .

I have always believed that in the southern hemisphere water does go down the drain in the opposite direction than it does in the northern hemisphere. And just to slip this in (while Denni is not looking). Sue you could make your own toilet paper with the new 'lace craft' you have learned.

Some time ago I read some scientist about which way the water would go. He said the hemisphere you are in had a minute effect but it would be cancelled by various other factors such as the shape of the container.

I want embroidered! Still, I will try embossing to see what happens.

Smacks hand, now get back on topic!
