Of course mine are all pure silk, not good for putting out fires but they light a few when the neighbours spot them on the washing line!

Oh dear, you women are giving me the eebie jeebies here

It's bad enough having visions of Sue in her slightly large Marks and Sparks knicks, and ecnalumba whipping hers off to go save the world! Now I've got visions of Ren hanging out her parachutes on the washing line hehehehehehehehe

Has anyone actually been into M & S and looked at their lingerie recently?

I think you'd be surprised.......

I've just stocked up in their sale - in case I have a fire, of course. Just letting you know, in case you are wondering, that my pans are tiny so I shouldn't have a problem....

Oops! Did I leave the letter 't' out?

Did you mean to say "My pans are tinny or my pants are tiny?"

Well, just before Christmas, I bought underwear at Victoria's Secret and two other brands (Cosabella and Hanky-Panky) at a Chicago department store. The VS and Cosabella lines came in small/medium/large, and the Hanky-Panky brand in "one size only."

Now I'm REALLY curious. I'm suddenly realizing that if I had to buy numerically-sized underwear, I wouldn't have any idea what size to get!

M&S generally size theirs according to normal clothes sizes, so they might be 10/12, 14/16, 18/20 etc.

I am very curious to know, what is the general consensus amongst you ladies - do you go for comfortable and practicable, or do you (dare I say it) go for "cute and slinky" (I wasn't sure what to put there lol).

From a male perspective, I have no objections whatsoever to the lady in my life wearing whatever she feels comfortable in. I still have memories of the "passion killers" that used to be issued to the WRAC's I served with in the army lol

If Sue posts on here now saying she loves to wear tanga briefs, I am gonna need therapy

I like to go for a combination, if you will, like "comfortable and cute". That way I'm not bothered walking around in them all day, but also, should my jeans come off for any reason, they still look good! The best day of my life was when I found a new brand/style of underwear that are very comfortable, and "slinky" , and make my butt look good!
But I do have some that are comfortable, but rather boring to look at (or even not nice to look at lol). And still others that are very UNcomfortable but nice to look at.

You have hit the nail on the head there GG with the essence of my question - why on earth should women feel "obliged" to wear underwear that is "appealing" to the supposed male viewpoint?
If the women herself WANTS to look and feel "glamorous" then I say fine, go for it gal - but I really don't think that a woman should be pressured by whatever, or whoever, into looking "sensual" at all times!
Underwear serves a practical purpose - yes, there is a time and place when it provides a little "excitement", but essentially it should be PRACTICABLE

And I thought Stu was going to announce an "everything you ever wanted to know about knickers but were afraid to ask" quiz...

Mine range from the practical to the totally impractical, all depends on the mood. I also have some fairly punitive stuff as that pulls in, pushes up and stops unwanted wobbles. Only ever worn with a posh frock thought. I dread getting carted off to hospital unconscious in all that stuff. Believe me, it doesn't come off quickly in an emergency.

In what category would a quiz on women's underwear go?

Probably Entertainment : Beauty Accessories & Fashion : Clothes Specific.

I'm kind of a minimalist when it comes to that topic. Rowena, it's all yours.

supersal already has her "Knickers to That" quiz online. It does 'cover' more than underwear. Just thought I'd get a plug in for you, Sally, I'll bill you for it later. Sandy

Well I try not to buy into the "at all times" part. My very uncomfortable underthings are reserved for being worn when I know they're coming off in ten minutes.

Several years ago, but not many, when I was a little larger than I am now for sheer devilment after a shopping trip I announced in the office that they actually had thongs in my size! My (male) manager almost choked! I didn't say that I had bought any, I hadn't. After that you could almost see him speculating, is she or isn't she?

I think thongs are the worst thing ever invented. One of the most horrible sights in my mind is the woman who bends down with her back to you and the jeans are hipsters and the thongs are not. Yuk. Now that would put me off much more than the largest "Gorkies"(my grans name for voluminous knee lengthers) or directoires ever made, if I were a bloke. Although my gran used to wear grey flannel gorkies. Not a pretty sight either. They would have put out the fire of London.
