The difference between book club books and books sold in book stores is quality. The mail order books from clubs are printed on inferior quality paper, the hard covers are inferior and the pages are usually ragged rather than cleanly and crisply cut.
You get what you pay for, however. The book club price is half (or less) of the book store price.
