This might be a stupid idea, if you think it is please tell me, I didn't think it out yet.
My idea was to take turns picking a classic every couple of weeks in which any member who is interested can critique and debate upon. Let's say that we have started, on November 18th we would all discuss the first three chapters or so, on November 20th we discuss up to the sixth chapter, on the 22nd up to the ninth chapter, and so on. I was thinking that if we divide up the book instead of doing a critique on the entire thing, we would be able to have deeper discussions. And just because it is November 17th doesn't mean that you can't post on what you have read so far, so long as you don't post about after the third chapter and ruin the story for the people who weren't up to there yet.
I suggest that we do classics because they may be easier to get in a local library than the more recent novels. Sounds like a good idea? If you think so, let's start a schedule. If you think it is a bad idea tell me why so that we can revise it.
I'm interested in doing "The Awakening," by Kate Chopin as our first book. If we do go on with this anyone can pick the books that we do afterwards.

That sounds fine with me Lanni...I wonder if we can get the populace in these forums interested though...we've tried this with 'Atlas Shrugged' (clearly too long) and recently with Pynchon's 'Gravity's Rainbow' (lack of interest) but without much success. If you want to start a new topic entitled "Kate Chopin's 'The Awakening'" perhaps it will draw some interest. Would you be willing to lead these bi-weekly discussions? Let's see what kind of interest we can draw and we'll look into it...it's up to the forum members how active they want to be in promoting this...
