I'm righthanded, and certainly can't draw, and haven't much visual sense. I would consider myself mildly creative, though, in a broad sense.

Of the left handed people whom I have known (if the subject ever comes up) I don't see any disproportionate leaning towards 'artiness'. However, what I have seen, now and then, is lefties who seem to have the IDEA that they are arty, based only, so far as I can tell, on their lefthandedness, and on a disinclination toward math and science.

I'm a lefty. Pretty artistic and can draw well. Oddly enough I played baseball always as a right hander and cannot imagine batting with my left. I hold my fork in my left hand and my knife in my right....not sure exactly if thats the left handed way or a right?.....just a thought.

Right handed (my handwriting is not very good!) though some things I much prefer to do with my left hand, such as brush my teeth, hold the phone and odd things like that.

There's a modicum amount of artistic talent, mainly visual, running down through the females of the family- my mother, myself to a modest extent and two of my daughters. Not great but definitely there. My brother is a very fine draftsman , apprenticed to an architect and worked in city design, though he would not claim to be an artist. He used to come to me for ideas.
I LOVE music and can read and play but not much talent really and the rest of the family is much worse!

I did one of those left brain/right brain tests and came out about balanced each side.

I'm a lefty and not arty or crafty, can't sing, dance or play a musical instrument. Geez, what can I do? Oh, I know, I can knit!

I'm left handed, and couldn't draw a straight line with a ruler. I am crafty tho, my sister is too, and she is very talented with words, she can write really well. My other sister, she can paint really well but not draw. My brother can draw exceptionally well. Both sisters and my brother are right handed.

I'm a righty, but I am not clumsy with my left hand, although my penmanship leaves something to be desired. However, in things that require dexterity in both hands, such as typing, or playing piano, or gold and silver-smithing, I'm a whiz. I'm a professionally trained gold and silversmith, so arty in that particular three-dimensional way, I can draw reasonably well and paint moderately, especially miniatures. I also sing and act and play two instruments, plus I dabble in childrens' stories and designing knit and crochet patterns, which is more artistic than people might think. My whole family has a sort of general mishmash of artistic/creative/craftperson vibe. That I know of, my daughter, my sister and my mother are all moderately ambidextrous like myself, but both mum and sis favor their right hand, while Kit hasn't yet chosen which hand she'll favor overall. Instead, she favors certain hands for certain things. She eats like a lefty and writes her letters like a righty, but draws with a crayon in each hand.

Another righty here, not in the least artistic, although probably a 'craft'y type. I do have nimble fingers, evidenced in my typing speed, a good ear for music and a tendency to the mathematical and logical.

I live with husband who is left-handed, not at all a natural mathematician, extremely clumsy, a brilliant musician and who can draw pretty nifty sketches!

My left-handed daughter is hopeless at maths, not particularly musically-inclined, loves drawing but is not arty otherwise.

My right-handed son is a natural at mathematics and draws with incredible detail, but is otherwise clumsy.

Sorry, no definite indications of natural talents associated with left-or-right-handedness there, so my family won't advance this survey much

In my case, it depends. If I use two hands, I'm a "lefty" (as in batting in softball, golfing, a pretty good backhand at tennis [at one time], eating a Whopper, and so forth). For one-handed matters I am a "righty". Such as handwriting, a pitiful forehand in tennis [at one time] and eating a Junior Whopper, etc. I can't say how any of that applies to artistic ability or lack of it (I don't seem to be anything very notable one way or the other on that chart) but I can say this issue has contributed to my occasionally surly nature. Growing up, being a blended-in majority (since nothing looked left-handed about my daily comings and goings), I took some unnecessary flak/embarrassment on the baseball diamond (and golf course, later) for "doing 'it' wrong". I had one gym teacher in high school attempt to actually "properly instruct" me on how to bat . I was 15 at the time and had toted a bat with reasonable success for a decade. Naturally, once he saw that I could slam that little ball (doing it "correctly" or not), he left me alone. As a result, I became FAR more grouchy and defensive as a character trait than I managed to in a creative sense.

But the end results usually came out presentably and/or OK. I think?

I'm right-handed.

As for artistic ability, well, let's just say that kindergarten children have been known to nod their heads while smiling politely saying "Yeeeees. I can see that ..." !

Who says little kids aren't polite these days?!

I am ambidextrious. I tend to work problems (math, science, etc.) with my right hand, but I conduct music with my left hand. I was once told by someone that the reason for this had to do with left-brain, right-brain functions, but I don't know if that's true.

I too am ambidextrous, I am able to write with either my left or right hand - but am predominantly right handed. I am able to play pool "right" or "left" handed, and tennis also.
I am artistic, in that I play several musical instruments, I used to play violin to orchestral standard - but that was many years ago.

I'm a lefty and was an actor for 13 years and worked as a lounge singer for another 15. I can draw with effort and concentration, but can't paint.

Oh! As far as dancing goes, I have TWO left feet.

Very right-handed. It was very difficult when I broke my right wrist, I tried writing with my left hand but it looked like a drunken spider had been wandering about the page.

Arty? Not sure but I love messing about, perhaps I should try going to classes to learn.

Here are the results as they stand right now.

To simplify my survey,I decided to go with "artistic" as the ability to draw or paint well (although we all know that "art" comes in many forms, such as music, photography, etc.), and you had to believe you were artistic yourself, not that others told you so, in order to be counted "arty". I included all the people you mentioned in your posts, if you said whether they were "arty" or not and which hand they used predominately. If you said you were ambidextrous, I counted the hand that you used to write with.

Of the 51 subjects of our survey, 31% of you were left-handed. Of those lefties, 31% considered themselves to be "artistic". Of the 69% of you that are right-handed, 29% of you considered yourselves to be "artistic". So, 31% artistic lefties versus 29% artistic righties. Significant difference? Probably not, considering our small sample size, but interesting nonetheless.

I'm right-handed with left-handed tendencies and consider myself artistic.

I have a left-handed son who is very creative, but not much of an artist...yet.

I'm right handed, but have the unusual tendency to eat with a fork or a spoon left handed.

As far as being artistic goes...let's just say that when we last played Pictonary and I draw a stick figure, my partner guessed "tree".

Sad.

I'm right handed, and I love to draw. Unfortunately, I'm no good at it! It takes me a lot of effort to draw a recognizable figure. My most prized piece of art is a spray-painted 1-up Mushroom (an item from the Mario series of videogames) that I made. It is lopsided and messy, but to me, it is a masterpiece! Anyway, intelligence is more where my brain leans, not art. Perhaps that is why I am posting this on FunTRIVIA. Ha.
