This one is for my brother in law. When using the media players, such as BBC or ITV small screens, these are very dark and you can hardly make out what is happening. This doesn't happen say on the You Tube player, but only on the smaller media ones. Is there any way I can turn up the brightness on these?

Some of it could just possibly be to do with computer specifications regarding graphics. There are controls that can be got to by right-clicking on the video and choosing 'Options'. These might be worth experimenting with. However, I notice that the BBC videos have a 'Launch in stand alone player' link.

When this is clicked, it launches Windows Media Player outside of the web page. When the Player is open...

Click on the 'Now Playing' tab
Select 'Enhancements > Video settings'
A brightness level slider will appear (amongst other controls)
Try increasing the brightness and watching the video like this.

I would give what telly said a try. If that doesn't work, follow below:

I don't know what kind of video card you have Bossy, but most decent 3D graphics cards have their own programs to adjust settings for graphics. Such as ATI's Catalyst Control Center (CCC) or nVidia's Control Panel.

If you go to START > SETTINGS > DISPLAY, go into the ADVANCED tab, and then select the tab for your video card, you should get access to these advanced settings.

There will be a section for VIDEO/TV and such. In there you can set brightness, contrast, gamma, etc. settings for how your graphics card handles video, independent of everything else.

I posted a picture from my work PC that has an nVidia graphics card so you can see what it looks like:

Hope this helps!

Thank you for both suggestions which I will try out when I next visit my brother in law on Sunday.
