Been a funny old Six Nations this one. England were poor yet still somehow managed to finish second. Who would have betted on the Welsh at the start of the competition to win the Grand Slam, especially after their World Cup showing. But that's the Six Nations for you, highly unpredictable from year to year, which makes it the great tournament that it undoubtedly is and long may it continue.

Does anybody fancy reviving this thread for the 2009 season?

I'll start the ball rolling anyway !

It really could go any one of 5 ways this season - and that's nobdisrespect to Italy. Scots are definitely on the up, the Irish aren't sinking as quickly as everybody's been anticipating. Wales as usual fluctuate on a knife edge - just as likely to come 5th or 6th as they are to finish first. England have to be better than the autumn showed - Johnno's had a year to build stuff now, and the English teams are doing well in Europe. France? Well, it's the same old cliche - which France will turn up for each game?

Impossible to predict - but I've got to start somewhere, so here goes;

1. Ireland
2. France
3. England
4. Scotland
5. Wales
6. Italy

If it's half as good as last year's - it'll be a good watch!

I am running a six nations tipping competition over at the Tipping Forums just two down from here, if anyone is interested (get your tips in by FEBRUARY 7 - 2:30pm).

I think it'll end up:

1. Wales
2. France
3. Ireland
4. England
5. Scotland
6. Italy

Trying to predict the final outcome of a Six Nations tournament is a bit like predicting a certain six numbers on a Saturday or Wednesday evening. But here goes:

1. England (optimistic but what the hell)
2. France
3. Wales
4. Scotland
5. Ireland
6. Italy

In six weeks time I'm going to look back on this and laugh my socks off. But who can really predict a Six Nations competition?

Congratulations to Ireland! A well deserved grand slam. A poor effort from Wales and they ended up in fourth --- where they deserve!

I have absolutely no fingernails left! Warmest Congratulations to Ireland - when you think of Willie John McBride, of Tony Ward, of Sean Fitzpatrick, of Keith Wood - there's no way you should have waited 61 years for a Grand Slam..Kudos!
