What is your altitude?

I was wondering at what different altitudes our FT members live. Here in Carson City we're almost 5,000 feet above sea level. Lake Tahoe is a little higher, at 6,000. Donner Summit is way up there, at 7,000 to 8,000 feet. We're in the midst of a big storm, and the difference in the amount of snow we'll get, and what the summit will get, is amazing! So, how high, or low, are you?

I am in Northern England at about 1400 feet above sea level.
For the last couple of days it has snowed here but 5 miles away and 400 feet lower it has been quite clear.

Interesting - never really thought about this.
We are low for our province, as the Rocky Mountains are on the west side, while I live on the east side. Still fairly high, though, in the grand scheme of things - I'm finding various numbers, but it's around 2220 ft, or 675 m.
Hard to talk about snow, here - we don't really get all that much, as this is a dry part of the world. However, since what we get stays rather than melts - the snow that fell last November is still here, lying under more recent accumulations - it looks snowier than it really is, comparatively. It's up to my knees in the back yard, and will be until the end of March.

My town is on the English Channel coast. The town centre area is actually slightly below sea level. Where I live it's about 40 or 45 metres (130 to 145 feet) up. The highest point in the borough is 575 feet (175 metres) above sea level.
The winter has been pretty mild so far - several degrees above freezing even at night. I'm glad to say we get very little snow here - I hate the stuff!

Ft. Collins, CO is roughly 4,900 ft above sea level. Any storm that comes out of the west is fairly mild, except for the wind. It's when they come out of the east that we check the pantry and bring in more firewood.

My hometown, Nijmegen, is 7 m above sea level. Which is higher than most places in the Netherlands! I have no idea about the altitude of Brisbane, but I don't think it's much higher than Nijmegen.

Dallas is about 520' above sea level, but where I moved here from was in the 1700' range. Maybe that's why I saw more snow in west Texas than I do here.

Missoula, MT, is 3,200 feet above sea level. It's actually pretty mild here...but there's always one or two big storms that supply us with our share of snow for the winter.

Depending on which site you believe, my suburb in Western Sydney is somewhere between sea-level and 36 metres above. This is good, because I have no head for heights.

To quote from http://www.ukotcf.org/territories/jersey.htmThe island slopes from a height of 153 m on the north coast to 60 m above mean sea level in the south. Now what the mean sea level is supposed to mean I have no idea, something to do with tides? The south coast can have the waves breaking over the sea walls so I would have thought that would be sea level, but apparently not.

Jerusalem, Israel, about 780 m above sea level (add about another 300 m above the Jordan rift valley which we can see from up here on a clear day) This is how we got two days of snow this winter which actually stayed on the ground for much of the day in many places, much to our children's delight.

I'm 271 feet above sea level. This is a very useful site: http://www.earthtools.org/You can zoom in on any place in the World, and then click the button on the left that says height.
