Just downloaded about ten windows updates after a long absence on my Cyprus computer. After installing these, the icons in the taskbar and system tray have changed to very tiny and when I choose Larger Icons on right click, they are enormous. Also the system tray icons, in addition to being tiny, are now stacked in two rows rather than one line and don't seem to respond to moving the mouse over them. Anyone else had this after an update? I think it had a service pack in it as it took ages.

On your computer, mine is in my Control Panel, you will have an option to go into your "Taskbar and Start Menu" and customize them. Below is the easiest way I can explain how to change what you are seeing. At the bottom you will see info about the "buttons stacking on top of each other" and how to resolve it. You may have something different, but this should start you in the right direction. Anything you do can be undone so don't panic if it looks wrong after the change. Sandy

1) Right-click an empty space on the taskbar. If Lock the Taskbar has a check mark next to it, the taskbar is locked. Unlock it by clicking Lock the Taskbar, which removes the check mark.

2) Point to the edge of the taskbar until the pointer changes into a double-headed arrow, and then drag the border up or down.

3) To stop grouping similar taskbar buttons on the taskbar:
Click to open Taskbar and Start Menu Properties.
If the Group similar taskbar buttons check box is selected, the buttons will automatically stack on top of each other. To turn off grouping, clear the Group similar taskbar buttons check box.

I am using XP on this computer and could not see the option of stacking on the Taskbar and Start menu. However, in the end I went to Control Panel, Display, Advanced and increased the size of the caption buttons which worked fine. On the increase, the system tray unstacked also into one line. Many thanks for your suggestion and it is probably my fault for not mentioning XP rather than Vista.

Bossyboots,
You had been asking questions on Vista and we had chatted away! I never even gave a thought to you asking about another system. My fault for not asking if it was still Vista related. I'm glad you got it cleared up. Sandy
