I am looking for the name of an old movie:
It was a b/w movie from the 30's or 40's and was about the terrible effects sensational newspapers had on a family.
It took place in Chicago, I believe, and concerned a man and wife who had hidden the fact that the wife had murdered her previous husband/fiancee many years before. They had changed their name and raised a daughter.
The story comes out, however, and seems to ruin their daughter's own engagement (the family of her fiancee objects). The mother has a heart attack (I believe) and the father kills himself. The daughter then goes downtown to the newspaper office with a gun to get revenge on the reporters, but is talked out of killing them.
