A very rich movie.

I really loved this movie with all those rich characters.

The main character is Daniel Plainview, an oilman(If I Say I Am An Oil Man You Will Agree)
Daniel Day-Lewis Plainview(there is still some Plainview in him I guess) plays his best.

I think this movie will win many oscars.

Any one else seen it?

I had the chance to meet Daniel when he came in Greece, he is a great guy.

Holy cow! Honestly, I'm not the *fan/groupie* type, but I would be stricken speechless, I'm sure of it, were I given the opportunity to meet Daniel Day-Lewis. The man is not only a staggering talent, he seems to have this enormous blend of class mixed with humility that I find breathtaking in people. Lucky, lucky you, JohnDodger, to have had the chance to actually meet the fellow.

As for "There Will Be Blood", I'd been reading about the project for months and was glad the reviews measured up to the expectation when it went to wide release. I haven't seen it yet, but will absolutely be buying the DVD the minute I get notice on pre-orders for it. In terms of Mr. Oscar, my hunch is that "No Country For Old Men" will win big this year (it's actually a very very worthy year for great stuff - but the Coen Brothers seem to have the largest momentum ... at the moment, anyway). I'd call Day-Lewis a definite lock for Best Actor, however. HAS to happen, I'd say. He's won the lion's share of so many other important prizes coming into it.

What you say about Daniel is so true.
This guy is great and his is a very inspirational actor and human being.

This year I will be doing some auditions and tests to enter in some acting classes and meeting him has urged me even more to go on some search about what I am going to do.

I have not seen No Country For Old Men so I trully cannot compare. One thing I know, if you see There Will Be Blood you will be astonished by Daniels acting skills. This movie is 2 hours and 40 minutes and the whole movie concetrates in just one story, just one character.
(Just like the aviator, the story of one characters and all the other characters are there to help us get a better impression of the main character).
I hope you know what I mean!

If I may weigh in...

I have seen both "There Will Be Blood" and "No Country for Old Men" (the latter mainly because of your trivia round awhile back, Gats ), and I thought both movies were incredibly good.

I can't say which deserves to win the Oscar - they were both amazing. However, overall I preferred "There Will Be Blood." Daniel Day-Lewis is an exceptional actor, and I was pleasantly surprised at how well Paul Dano rose to the challenge. While both movies showcased fantastic actors and a gripping story, "There Will Be Blood" haunted me for days after seeing it. I in no way mean to belittle “No Country for Old Men” either, because it is a powerful movie that is easily one of the best I have seen in a long time. In fact, I will probably buy a copy of “No Country” to re-watch. (And it’s unlikely that I’ll do the same for “There Will Be Blood.”)

I agree wholeheartedly with your appraisal of the movie, John, and I wish you the best of luck with your auditions!

I have so much plutonic man-love for Daniel Day Lewis. He's in my top 3 favorite actors.

However I was very let down by 'There Will Be Blood'. Perhaps I hyped myself up too much. I went into it expecting to be moved by such former Day Lewis movies as 'Gangs of New York' or 'Last of the Mohicans'. I found the movie to move at a crawl. I kept expecting for big moments but the movie never delivered. Take Daniel Day Lewis out of the movie and it's a 2 star movie with a drawn out plot. To me, that's not enough for a Best Picture award.

'No Country For Old Men' on the other hand was, in my opinion, one of the best movies of the past 10 years.

Personaly I think Last of the Mohicans was a terrible movie that even Daniel Day-Lewis could save.

When I mean terrible I mean bad plot, bad directing and bad editing.
If you look close to the last of the mohicans you ll find many holes!

Anyway I wont try to change your mind but There Will Be Blood but I believe it was an excelent movie!

I haven't seen the movie yet, but it's based on the 1920's novel "Oil" by muckraking novelist Upton Sinclair, best known for his 1906 work "The Jungle", a study of American workingmen and an expose of the meat packing industry of the time. It helped a great deal in getting pure food laws passed and in the origin of the Food and Drug Administration. Sinclair won a Pulitzer Prize for his Lanny Budd series. The only other movie adaptation of Sinclair's work before "Blood" is a 1967 Disney film of his children's fantasy "The Gnome-Mobile" starring Walter Brennan.

I am thrilled that Daniel Day-Lewis and Javier Bardem took the Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor Oscars, respectively. I may have had trouble deciding which film deserved the Best Picture more, but I would have been deeply disappointed in the Academy if these two fantastic performances weren't honored. I'm happy!
