What a handsome family they have, picqero. Everybody down to the smiling grandmother is vibrant and full of life, and the website is wonderful. You are fortunate to have met such people - maybe you can get to know them well in the future.

The bad news is that for the last two weeks I've been fighting a cold that's been getting me down. But the worst news is that for the last five or so days, I have totally lost all sense of smell. I went to the doctor today and was told that it should come back once I kick this cold and sinus problems. It's been so frustrating not to be able to smell anything.

I'm sure your sense of taste is affected too, then. I had a similar cold/sinus infection on my birthday once and could hardly taste my birthday cake. Very disappointing!

Yeah PF glad you computer is back.

My low was my daughter broke up with her boyfriend of 7 years and I feel like I have lost a friend as he was over at our house at least 4 days a week. Even worse; we had become good friends with his parents so now have lost a set of good friends too.

The high of this week is again, spending time with a friend. The low is that re-grand opening is this weekend. They are claiming that it will last all month, and are anticipating 75,000 people through the store in the first weekend. I'm hoping that it doesn't live up to their expectations, seeing as how they blew good money on things we didn't need. For example, a $30,000 oven that only bakes one particular type of bread. It's so time consuming that we don't even use it first thing in the morning, we use the regular ovens.

High of my week is that I've just organised my work experience placement.
It's at the childcare where I went when I was young, and there was still someone there that remembered me.

Of course...I was knee height when she last saw me, I've grown just a little

My high this week is that I have the week off work (holidays).
My low is that I didn't go anywhere because I know if I did my housemate would do anything to make my boyfriend angry and they would fight while I was gone.

Oh, another high for me that I just remembered...Today I went and saw the Police Tattoo dress rehearsal with my school. It was ecxellent, and I really enjoyed everything. There were pipe bands, marching bands, dancers, singers, and general entertainment.

Some of the younger children from some of the other schools there didn't really appreciate it though...their only idea of music is popular atuff.

My high point was getting a (most unexpected) phone call yesterday from my steady ol' "doc" from two [almost three?] years ago. I was a bit shocked that he went to the trouble to find my new number that is in place since then. The dude just "understands" me, I think - sorta refreshing. He scolded me nicely and/or dutifully for not doing this that way or that this way - but, at the end of the day, he seems to *get it*. Of course, it helped when I said: "I know you called just to see if I was dead yet, didn't you ?" He assured me that he'd already been considered the *odds-on* favorite in the office betting pool. The one where his "guess" was that I'd outlive more than half the people in their building (he told me it was shaky, though, since the janitor there wasn't feeling a bit well lately ). I thanked him, he thanked me back. And agreed that we'd talk again come 2011, maybe before .

My low point, I reckon, was that he reminded me that I needed to keep my health situation in my head correctly. Not to compartmentalize it too much. Alas. After all these months of keeping it squarely in the back seat, I suppose he had a point. But I could've lived without the reminder, anyway ...
Nice talking to him, though!

Low point - I upset a friend without meaning to do so.

High point - hoping my friend is still my friend.

Sorry just thinking aloud here - big low point tonight with my father-in-law dying. He was 88 and has been in ill health for quite some time but it's still quite sad.

The Italian girl that I wrote about in another thread had been here all of 15 minutes when we got the phone call. Poor thing - she seems very capable and I'm sure will be a very big help in the coming days as Jack will be heading off to be with his Mum so I will be more than busy trying to settle her in and look after the station.

COnor was asleep when we found out so will avhe to tell him in the morning.

Sorry to hear of your loss, Copago. Hope your young lad bears up okay upon hearing the sad news. Tough stuff for everybody concerned ... but likely moreso for the youngster(s).

Copago, I am sorry to hear of your family's loss. As you said, despite his age and condition, it is still a sad thing to go through, I hope your family will be there to help each other through it and that your son Conor takes the news well. Best wishes to all.

Gats, I hope you are feeling well these days. Nothing like an unexpected call like that to shake things up...

My low is that I sent my husband to Iraq last night. We are still numb from the goodbyes and the time leading up to the final one. He'll be gone for close to a year and a half with a short few weeks off somewhere in the middle. This is the third deployment in four years and it's not getting any easier. It's his first time to Iraq so there's moral issues we are dealing with on top of the sadness to see him go. I just keep reminding myself that although we disagree with the reason he has to go it is his job to do it. It's also very hard on our eight year old, who for the first time understands the dangers his father faces, I am trying to keep it together for his sake and will be very proactive to keep the news turned off. No point in further upset for him or me.

Can't really come up with a high right now....will give it some thought.

Copago, I am also very sorry to hear about your father-in-law. Conor has you to turn to for questions and comfort and that's what it is all about. I know you will help him understand the best he can because you are a fantastic mother and role model.

BurgGurl,
I hate to be a downer, but I am in tears right now after reading your post. Thankfully, I have never had to go through that, cannot imagine what you feel like, and how hard it has got to be for your child. Words don't suffice in conveying the admiration and pride I feel for all those, like your husband, who take the military way of life. As with all others fighting this horrid war, you and yours are in my thoughts and prayers. Sandy

Oh Copago, my sympathies to you, Jack and young Conor too. It must be awful, telling someone so young that they won't be seeing their Grandpa (or any other relation) again. I hope your Italian helper is just what you need at this hard time.
And Burg gurl, it must be so hard for you and your family. I hope Mr Burg gurl comes home safely. We're all here for you.

My thoughts are with you and your family, too, BurgGurl. Godspeed to your husband's safe return home (and let's hope he returns sooner than a year and a half, too).

It's terrible news about your loss, Copago, and I'm so sorry. I hope your family starts moving toward some kind of peace over this in the near future.

Burgurl, my heart goes out to you and the family. He's doing his job and we are proud of him for his courage -regardless of the circumstances...we're here to listen to your vents, if it helps at all.

I entered a post right after Ren's and now it's gone. Did I say something untoward to have it removed?

I had said that I was sorry to hear of your loss Copago. And a note to BurgGurl as well. I sent a PM to BG, so she did get my message.

I join the others in sending my condolences to Jillian and family.
We're all looking forward to hearing about your Italian helper - it is fortunate that she is there to help you this week especially.

BurgGurl - you and your family will be in my prayers! I'm so thankful for those who serve our country, but I can only imagine how hard it must be for you and your son.

We are here for you both!
