During the Easter break 'The History Channel' screened a fascinating quasi-documentary called 'Life After People', which imagined what would happen to the world if the whole of humanity died. This wasn't the normal 'hit by an asteroid' or 'nuclear conflict' type disaster movie as only humans died, all other lifeforms being unaffected.
It showed aspects of the world without people, particularly cities, from a few hours, through hundreds of years, and eventually thousands of years from now, by which time cities would have returned to pure wilderness, oceans would teem with life, and there would be hardly any evidence left of mankind. The programme surmised that probably the only manmade things to survive into the distant future would be structures already ancient, such as the pyramids of Egypt!
It was of course pure science fiction, but backed by interviews with scientists, structural engineers, etc, who described the constant work required to maintain structures such as large bridges, and how quickly these would literally fall apart without constant maintenance.
