I was watching Paul O'Grady last night and his guests were Mariah Carey and John Barrowman.

As Paul interviewed Mariah Carey she revealed that she would never sing live again. I personally do not like Mariah Carey but i would be interested to know what fans of hers think of this if there are any out there.

In my opinion who would want to support her after and announcement like that. That if there are any forthcoming concerts that people will be going to see her mime! It defeats the whole purpose!

And as a big fan of the musical industry am outraged that an artist has decided this.

In the case of Mariah Carey, I can't see as it's a big loss, personally, but I also don't understand exactly what there is to be outraged about. I'm a big music lover too, and while I think that most "true" musicians are at their best during live performances, the pop music scene is chock full of mediocre talents with a marketable "look" and the stresses of aging understandably play a part in the success of their live performances. There's a reason why so many pop stars come and go so fast. They don't have the musicianship to outlast their own aging, because their look is at least as much a part of their marketability as their talent. I think this should be understood and accepted.

She sang live on Idol Gives Back on Wednesday night, with Randy Jackson on bass. Maybe she meant she wasn't interested in touring anymore. It's grueling and at this stage in her life, who needs the grind? <shrug>

Did she give any explanation as to why she won't sing live anymore? I personally find her very annoying, and she has a reputation for being a....snob, but I'd be curious as to what made her make that decision.

I'm not a fan of Miss Carey's (even though I must [grudgingly] admit she has a rather awesome vocal range) but, from everything I've heard, the staff of these venues where she allegedly WON'T be performing must be heaving humongous sighs of relief at the news. It's all just rumor, of course (albeit very consistent and far-reaching rumor, if that helps to possibly validate it), but I hear that the woman is a Diva [rhymes with PITA] times fifty when in concert. Unfriendly, demanding, even more *superior*-acting than many 'stars' are, basically rude to the people there trying to accomodate her every sneeze, etc.
Oh, and if I might add, too ? If that showng on "Idol" was any decent barometer as to her typical stage prescence/performance skills? Her deciding to stop doing that sort of business was/is likely a very wise one .
