Geez, you could have waited till I at least got out the door!

The library at my work, from the first floor landing.

Looks to me like a helicopter, or else some kind of gun turret on a WWII plane?

I used to work in a library. 'Twas the little stools that really gave it away

As for deputygary's, my first thought was a turret on a WWII aircraft as well.

Its not a turret or a water truck. Jar actually had it with one of his guesses. It is a helicopter--a UH-1 Huey to be exact.

Good one, Gary! I'm sure Jar will be thrilled to know she got it correct.

Well, that's what comes from being familiar with the Viet Nam era I suppose. Had I thought for a minute I might have been more exact and said Huey. On the other hand, isn't it sort of sad that we identify things by the wars we remember. By the way Deputy Gary, I are a she, not a he... Hee.... hee...

First time I've identified anything! Guess I better get in gear and find something myself to post. And Gary, who's to know? After all, I could have been a jarhead! For those of you who don't know, a jarhead is slang for a Marine. (not to be confused with the book, movie or comic...)

Ok, these are clearly a type of jewellery, but what precisely are they?
I'm asking how they are used, not what they're made from.

Interchangeable stones? One item of jewellery giving the impression of many just be changing the stone?

They look like lock-rings used in manufacturing, not 'locked' fully, with jewels in them.

None of these I'm afraid, and the closest guess is jordandog's - but still way off the correct answer.
The stones aren't interchangeable, by the way; the image simply showing a selection of available pieces.
A clue, which may help, is they are individually quite large; nearly 4 centimetres diameter - so definitely not nose rings or collar studs

Could they be something like interchangeable buttons? or something that would hold a scarf together around the neck?

Neither bracelets, nor buttons, nor scarf clips.
Feel free to ask general questions if you wish
