I was going to say 'a gamekeeper's gibbet'
Height restriction, eh; perhaps they're small suspended bells at a railway crossing ?

Does it have something to do with hight restriction of vehicles?

That's what I think it is.

Some kind of warning for skiers ie they pass under, the bells ring, and they know to look out?

Is it a height reminder for logging trucks? I'm thinking logging because of the backround and that logs are something that the truck driver wouldn't know how tall it was until it was already loaded onto the truck.

Lady took everyone in the right direction. These are called "Telltales". On the recent trip on the narrow gauge steam engine we saw these over the tracks as the train approached tunnels.

Why?

The brake wheels used to be on top of the cars and brakemen had to walk, or stand on the cars to work the brakes. The 'Telltales" would brush against them and let them know they either had to lay down or get off the car roofs.

These days the brakes are located on the backs of the cars and brakemen no longer have to climb on top. They've kept the tailtells along the route as nostalgic memorabilia.

Interesting Tredici. I am sure I have seen 'telltales' before but can't remember where or when.

We haven't had a 'What is it' for a while, so see who's first to guess what this is?

My first thought is a pillow, with a wild animal design.

Certainly a wild animal design, but certainly not a pillow!

How about a purse? Seems to me it would go with anything.

Would a couch cushion be the same as a pillow? If not, that's my guess.

None of these, neither a cushion, blanket, or purse - nor anything like them I'm afraid!

I was going to say a bangle, but the curve is all wrong and would suggest the pattern in on the inside, so maybe a different item of jewellery?

Not jewellery, jigsaw, nor a pet bed.
OK, maybe a couple of clues are needed
It's not a common shape for one of these.
Also, maybe looking at the surface it's standing on might help, or might not

Bonus if you can guess what are the faint vertical shaded lines behind it - might even help to guess what it is!

The vertical lines behind it look like wood, maybe like paneling. The surface of the animal print looks like it might be painted on wood also. Is it some sort of painting?

I know I am going way out on a limb with this one, but is it a rocking horse?
