I think for me, it's more a series of books than 1 particular book. That series would have to be the Left Behind series. Everytime someone on the Tribulation Force died, it felt like my heart just broke.

A lot of books make me cry. One I can think of is "Chicken Soup for the Soul" not every story but a lot of those make me cry. "the Diary of Anne Frank" made me cry. I'm very emotional so plenty of books make me cry, especially the ones I read about the holcaust.

I very rarely cry at books, but i'm afraid that Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince made my eyes water a little. The funeral at the end was so moving. I also came close to crying when i read A Walk to Remember - Nicholas Sparks. It was such a moving story.

I have always laughed and cried at books and see nothing embarrasing about it. To me if the author can transport you into his world enough to make you feel emotion, he has done his job well.
Off the top of my head "The Plague Dog's" i read it years ago and recently got another copy but couldnt read it again. it was too upsetting. I also ended up in tears the other day by a book called "Marley and Me" that was a rollercoaster of emotion i can tell you. another animal one, they get me every time kids and animals. sunday

I am very emotional... but I dont remember most of the things that make me cry in books and movies. I cry a lot more with books then with movies. The only book I can remember crying off is Where The Red Fern Grows. I balled and blamed myself.

'The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas', a book about the Holocaust really upset me although I am more inclined to cry at movies. The book is so sad and is a must read. Bruno is so innocent but ends up as one of the victims of the Nazis evil plans. It's heartbreaking really.

Thomas Hardy always makes me blub. I howled through the last third of The mayor of Casterbridge, and let's not even think about Jude the Obscure.

Watership Down does it for me every time. Must have read the book about 10-15 times since I was little.

I can't really remember, but browsing through the thread, I saw someone mention "Flowers For Algernon" and I remembered. That was one book that had me bawling like mad in the middle of the night (I simply had to stay up just so I could finish it...). The last sentence... was simply just loaded with emotion.

Well, laughing or crying at a book never makes me embarrassed... what makes me feel a little awkward is what people will think if they see I've been crying, but not that I've been reading, lol. Anyways, I can think of two books that made me cry, off the top of my head: My Name is Morgan le Fay, by Nancy Springer (when she unwittingly causes "his" death); and Temple of the Winds, by Terry Goodkind (when Richard thinks he's been betrayed).

I always cry when I read "On the beach" right through the last half it just gets sadder and sadder - I think it's the only book where everyone is dead at the end - every last person!

A few months ago I read "Snow Flower and the Secret Fan" by Lisa See, I have always cried at books that are emotional--sad and happy alike--and this one was no exception. Right as I was finishing the book and was crying my eyes out, one of my friends called me and thought that something was the matter because I was crying. She thought it was insane that I was crying over a book!

I wish I could remember because I've been moved to tears over many books. All I can recall right now are a few instances.. Harry Potter, when Fleur delaCoeur shows Molly Weasley that she really does care about Bill. Yes, I'm such a softie Watership Down, yes, many years ago when I read it as a teenager. When I reread the part in Genesis.. (in the Hebrew) when Y/Joseph reveals himself to his brothers I'm moved to tears every time. Others elude me now but in sum if I can see the scene in my mind's eye and that scene strikes enough emotional chords, that's usually enough.

I find that I get more emotional about books than films too. Watership Down, Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck and Goodnight Mister Tom are ones that had an impact though I was quite a lot younger when i read them. I also remember getting upset with Charlotte's Web when I was young. Have heard so many things about Steven Pelzer's books that I might give them a read too.

Harsh Cry of the Heron by Lian Hearn. She tied up all the strings really well, but it was so sad. I wish it could have happened differently, even though I know the ending fits with the characters and story!
