When Beth dies in Good Wives by Louisa M Alcott, I have read the set of books Little Women, Good Wives, Jo's Boys and Little Men around 100 times and I have cried every single time Beth dies.

I know there must be some book that has made me cry but I'm at a loss as to which one. The gospels do though especially the crucifixion and the dialogue between Jesus and Peter at Caesarea Philippi.

There is always at least one story in all the James Herriott's books about animals where I use up the Kleenex box. (All Creatures Great and Small, etc.)

I cry when I read a lot of books. The first time I read Les Miserables I was crying so hard! I also cry whenever I read White Fang.

I was in horrible tears at the end of the book "The Five People You Meet in Heaven" by Mitch Albom

He gives you his perspective of what you can expect in heaven. You live your life and then you find out why you lived it in heaven.

If you are in for a thought provoking yet easy read DEFINITELY pick up this book and read it. It gives you a new way of thinking and in some way touches you.

I came on here to post the book I just finished by Mitch Albom and found the post above. What a coincidence! However, the one I just finished was "For One More Day". I cried at the end of "The Five People You Meet in Heaven" so I had a feeling I would cry at the end of this new book. However, I got all the way to the last page and thought "phew, I made it", then I read the last 4 sentences and burst into tears.

There have been a lot that make me cry, I am a complete crier when it comes to literature (and movies). I read the Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants a few years ago, and both the first and second books of that series made me cry. A lot. I won't tell you why, though, to spoil the book for anyone who wants to read it!

The end of the childrens book 'The Incredible Journey'. In fact I can cry just thinking about it, I don't have to read it. Its the bit where the little boy thinks his dog hasn't made it because he is slower than the other two.

Can't go on---I am weeping now (G)!

Oh my goodness I just got done with a book called "The Chineise Cinderella" It was such an emotional book because it was a true story. All that happened in the book actually happened to the Author. It ends up good, but man it made me cry hard.

But my #1 crying book is "The Little Prince" - which is also 1st place in my Top any books.

I wholeheartedly agree with denni19 about this book. This is a book that both adults and children can read and appreciate. There are two other books that make me weep:
  • All Quiet on the Western Front, by Erich Maria Remarque
  • A Midnight Clear by William Wharton.

The most recent book that I read that made me cry was "Peony in Love", another great book by my favorite author, Lisa See. This one really made me cry, but it was worth every tear!

It is actually an Agatha Christie book that made me cry and that was 'Curtain - Poirot's last case'. The last line of the book is especially moving, i felt as though i had personally lost a friend.

Edith Pargeter (AKA Ellis Peters), Heaven Tree Trilogy (read in Dutch). Radiates an atmosphere of kindness and love for the characters and describes many dramatic moments as well as the subtle emotions involved in them.

I also felt like crying after every part of the Shannara series (3+4 books) by Terry Brooks because every book was about another generation, meaning the end for beloved characters.
don't remember much else, I was 12 when I read them, so.. but they mustve been good and I intend to read them again soon.

Just came to say that "Tuesdays with Morrie"by Mitch Albom is my most recent tear-jerker.

And I see that Clarasue and Gotztogopartay have read his other two that also touched my soul:-)

"The Notebook" by Nicholas Sparks made me cry because my husband died from Alzheimer's four years ago. It is a very sweet book but sad. I saw the movie also. Alzheimer's is a terrible disease and hopefully a cure or a prevention will soon be discovered. May God be with anyone who is currently caring for a loved one with this illness!

I cry over anything so it's not unusual to find me with a book in one hand tissue in the other. But One book comes to mind that was a beautifully written tear jerker, "Johnny Angel" by Danielle Steel. It's about the bond between a mother and son and how miracles can happen.

I always cry when I read "The Lovely Bones" By Alice Seabold. A few of the Harry Potter books made me cry especially the last one. I cried at the two poems before the story even started! I also cried at "Whistle and I'll Come" although I don't remember who wrote it. I'm a big crier at books and movies.

Definitely Deathly Hallows. Like many others here Dobby's end had the waterworks going and the sudden end of Hedwig did me in too.

"The first time I read Sir Walter Lord's "A Night to Remember" did me in as well. I find I tear up for non-fiction more than I do for fiction.

Has anyone read "When Rabbit Howls" that one had me crying more in horror than sadness. It's the story of Truddi Chase, a woman with 93 separate personalities, and the child abuse she endured. It's heart-wrenching.

"Roots" by Alex Haley made me SOB. I read it at work (huh!) while I was in college. I was red-eyed and tear-stained as I rang up customers' purchases that day.

Tsumanicharly, if "When Rabbit Howls" made you cry, for the reasons you listed, then a book I am reading may well be in the same tear-jerker boat.

I am reading a book titled "Broken", by Shy Keenan. It tells the tale of a little girl, unwanted and abandoned by her mother, and everything including being sold into sexual slavery by her mother and step-father. The worst of it was, the authorities failed at every step of her journey to assist her - even branding her as the problem on her case-file.

If you have the stomach, it is a great story of strength and endurance.

I can't get past the dog books. Jack London's "Call of the Wild" had some "my it's getting dusty in here" moments. And, of all things, the Dean Koontz book "Watchers" when there is the realization of how miserable and wretched the created monster's existence is, brings one of those hard swallow moments.

I may be in the distinct minority in not caring for The Five People You Meet In Heaven. The title has such a promising idea but I found the characters to be trite almost to the point of cliche. None seemed original or interesting. If that was the point, I will admit totally missing it.
